To me, the best books and the best movies don't really necessarily have just one genre or even a few. They're more like real life, love, sex, comedy, tragedy, etc etc. I think that's what gives them real depth.

That brings up another question. There's a trend now toward erotic romance rather than erotica, although I don't always see much difference. Do you have a preference?

Delilah Devlin actually has a new anthology out for Cleis Press, and ... more
It seems that the categories are getting closer together. To be honest, I find really good erotica stories with happy endings quite romantic!

Isn't Blaze from Harlequin? I read their translation in Spanish, Deseo, and it's erotic alright, but the stories are soooooo lame.

I'd like erotica that had more of the same genre instead of the same type, instead of all vampire, have more paranormal so it covers more.

As starter books to practice my Spanigh, ya know. I moved on to historical romance, much more fun.

I agree! Like, yes, vampire erotica is all the rage right now, but throw me a succubi or something.

Sorry to be so late to this but it's great to hear which stories people liked. If you haven't read it, "Beneath My Skin" by Shanna Germain is a knife play story and really beautiful. She also wrote about it at: link

As far as I can tell, erotic romance requires a romantic, HEA coupling (Happy Ever After) and erotica doesn't, but they can have just as much hot sex involved. Radclyffe edits Best Lesbian Romance for Cleis, and she reprinted one of my stories (from my Girl Crazy) that was as hot and kinky as anything I've ever written. Hot, kinky, verging-on-transgender in an Olympic figure skating setting.

I have ALWAYS been attracted to vampires. Far before this Twilight crap made it "cool"

Time for something edgy. Shanna Germain is one of the best writers in the business (I'm proud to say that she's written for quite a few of my anthologies, and we've been in many together. I' always in awe of her writing.) Here's ... more
I didn't know this when I accepted the story, and I think this is really fascinating.

Ah so we get a warm fuzzy feeling at the end. Ah yes, it's something I like, but usually it was one or two stories in an anthology and they'd tend to stand out. Now if every one was romantic, they would not stand out as much anymore.

I think erotic romance and erotic have certain conventions but there is often an overlap, or could be, and I think you can have a "happy ending" that's also sexy, kinky, etc. In general I prefer a mix of types of stories in one book, as a reader and editor.
