yes! gotta have pictures. i get frustrated when i see lingerie reviews with no photos. it's like verbally describing a work of art without showing a photo of it.

and the photos of the models' dont' really help us out a damn.

Sharing your experience with the product is a good place to start. I'd suggest getting British with it. We have few reviewers from the UK. Through in some local verbiage

I think different categories of reviews lend themselves to different voices - just my .02. Also I think it depends upon how many reviews an item has.

I was thinking about this after seeing your post the other day on this thread. My bath and body stuff will probably always be more "give the facts" whereby my lingerie reviews will probably always be more story-based. Not sure yet on dildos....vibrators its sorta up in the air.

But my voice depends upon the item I'm reviewing and my thoughts on the item.

Regarding the focus: I think more people should be encouraged to add pictures and write more than the bare minimum per section. (I've come across quite a few annoyingly short and uninformative reviews in my random site dalliances.)
So agree with this and it makes me mad, like they didn't even try.

I've had well over that, but a lot don't do more than one review or never recontact me. Drives me nuts!

Why pick a particular style? If it's a good review, it's a good review. Personally, I'd love to have a style other than straight forward and scientific, but I just do what I'm most comfortable with.

That makes sense, too. And yes, DR's are always going to be the objective type!

But like Olga... most of the reason I wanted to get it, and eventually got it, was because of how sexy steel is. So I felt like it needed some language in there to explain the appeal.

You know, I personally think that flowery ones are more appealing...as long as it's flowery with pertinent details. When there are 20 reviews for a product, I want to read a new one that's personal. DRs of course satisfy my ultra scientific, but knowing how you personally feel and why it was so great/awful for you really helps me decide. Everyone notices something different about the toy and sometimes it's that little detail that can help me decide either way.

I would like to be more consistent as well. I always feel that my best reviews are on a product that I actually LIKE and use often!

I'm an odd duck and I enjoy seeing all the scientific measurements so I can pull out my fabric tape measure at home and get a good idea of what the toy's dimensions are. But, I also like reading some personal experiences as well as additional tips about using the item I might not have thought of.

Thanks! That's the one Hot 'N Sexy mentored me on. We worked on it for, what, two weeks? Though mostly it took so long because Mark is such a versatile toy that there was a LOT to say about him.

It;s funny you say that. I'm compiling a comparison scale of what I have,

That's why we need to be able to fail students after just one review, not two. Cancelling the class erases all history that you worked with the student for one review.

I do find I'm having a hard time putting my picture up in lingerie reviews now. I've received a few "lesser" votes - nothing bad but its like it hurts me that I put myself "out there" by sharing pictures of ME and they vote less than useful or useful or whatever. Its like..."please don't vote if you can't give me a good vote cause its scary to put ME on the page".

Does that make sense? I'm seriously considering no longer showing pictures of me in it and just sharing with a few close friends who are the same size sorta.

so true! or even without a review at all. because some of them never even submit one...

If you're considering rewriting the prompts (and honestly, I don't think they need it. The prompts in the review writing template are honestly one of the most-helpful, thoroughly-explained-w hile-leaving-enough-en ds-open, cheerful, best sentences at their jobs I've ever read)

but anyway if you were to add one thing to them, usually the first thing I wind up telling my students is "think about why you chose this toy---why you wanted a g-spot vibrator in general, and how you chose this one from the field of g-spot vibrators. Did it live up to your expectations?"

I think I get the most out of reviews, and am most likely to find them very helpful, if I know what the reviewer was looking for going in to the purchase.
