Gift Card Update - Please Read

Contributor: Rachel K Rachel K
Hey, gang!

We wanted to give the community the heads up that a change has been implemented on our site. This change directly involves the gift cards.

So, most gift cards on our site are made with EdenPoints. It’s a great way to get what you want, and all you really have to do is browse the site, read some community posts, and just generally enjoy yourself at link.

However, more often than not, this system has been abused. There has been EdenPoint farming that has resulted in multiple gift cards being applied to solitary orders. Where we do love the idea of rewarding you points to generate a gift card to help with your purchase, we are generally not in favor of some users using the EdenPoints system to farm multiple cards to pay off orders that are, oh, say, $1400 dollars.

This all being said, abuse is not always the case, so we do not want to take away the points system or its ability to generate a gift card. EdenPoints are still active, and the ability to make gift cards are still active, but all orders are limited to one gift card per order. Multiple gift cards will no longer stack in orders.

Oh no! I usually use my gift cards from video reviews and such to cover my larger orders. I only use my points to cover the few dollars that the gift cards I've earned through other things don't cover.

This makes me sad. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to pay shipping when I want to use my $25 cards.

There is a slight issue with this solution. I have multiple gift cards that I have received from Rumbles, graduating students, video reviews, etc. With this new system, I can no longer use these cards that I already have to their full usefulness without having to pay any difference out of pocket. Previously, I would pay any difference using points.

And if this change continues as is, any chance we can change GC rewards into points added to our accounts instead?

I'm with you on this one. I wish it could be where you could add a gift card to your account and then have an option to use your credit instead of having it as a gift card. For example, gift cards can be added in to your points balance, and then you could can enter in a box how much credit you want to use from your account without it having to be changed into a giftcard. This way, there would be no transferring of points to different accounts. It could go something like this:

1. Get giftcard through e-mail/mentor program/etc.
2. Add giftcard to points balance.
3. Go to cart and enter in how much of your balance you want to use towards your purchase. (Instead of converting it into another giftcard.)

I second this, as I do much the same thing.

Is this Gift Cards in general (Ones from rumbles, points, contest etc.) or just GC made from points?

If there could be a way of converting a GC to points it sure would help. At least that way I could just make up one gift card to pay for my order.

I pay for all my purchases with gift cards. Eden Cafe cards, Video Review cards, etc. Just like Kindred said. If I can't use multiple cards on purchases, I cannot purchase anymore items. Or I'd have to order things individually and never anything large, which, are not items I'd usually purchase anyway.

Can there be a way to distinguish between point-generated GCs and cards assigned from rumbles/reviews/studen ts/blogs/vlogs????

Or, like Kindred said, have the points assigned instead of the GCs so that we can simply redeem when needed?

I'm on the same page. I wouldn't be able to make any other orders until I have enough points to cover them, even though I have gift cards.

Cashing GCs in for points will help all of us who have quite a few GCs use them and keep them all in one place, as well. Personally, I'd like to not have to convert the points to GCs in the first place. The GCs allow people to earn points on multiple accounts and compile them all into one.

OR? Can GC totals be placed into an "account" that we can redeem, similar to our Affiliate commissions?

THIS way... we can redeem only one actual GC from points, then use the money on our accounts to pay for items? The GCs wouldn't be counted as GCs, but points WOULD. If that makes any sense. So instead of Justin emailing us our codes, he'd simply adjust our account totals to reflect whatever we've earned.

I like that, too. It consolidates all that information for you, the company, the whole process of using a gift card, etc.

Or "apply" the money to our totals, not adjust them. Too much room for error to simply adjust the total... if that makes sense.

If there could be a distinction between GCs generated by EF versus by points and limit orders to one GC generated by points, that would solve the issue. That way we could stack as many non-points generated cards as needed.

I also wish there was some warning to this change. I have lent points to community members to purchase items during sales. I have one such GC now repaying me, fortunately it only has just over $20 left on it.

I'm in the same boat as BBW. I don't abuse the system, nor do I point farm. But, when I cash in my points, and there are 7 or 8 dollars left over, the system turns them into "Gift Cards."

I doubt I'll be making any more purchases in the near future. With being out of work, and then having to also pay for shipping for small orders, I simply can't swing it.

Sorry.

This is really not a good idea, as it punishes those of us who play by the rules, simply to get the few who don't.

Rachel said "However, more often than not, this system has been abused." [italic|more often than NOT" ? Really?

So much for ordering from Eden. If I only use ONE Gift Card left over from an other order, I'll only have a few dollars. If I use a GF from doing a video, I'll only have $25.00. Neither of these is enough of an order to pay for shipping. I am out of work, but enjoy helping out Eden by doing reviews etc.

I guess this is the end of an era. Really really sad. VERY sad.

The most I have been able to save for one purchase is 100$, but that was on one gift card. It's good to hear you won't be taking away edenpoints just because of "farming," but this new implementation will keep this abuse down, I believe.

It can be quite a pain to fish through my e-mail, gift card list, convert the few dollars worth of points I need to cover, and enter a bunch of codes in at checkout. I often forget which ones I've already used when I get them through e-mail.

Not true at all!

When I said we were listening to your ideas, we really are, and Miss Jaimes is gonna pop on in a sec to give you another update.

We're definitely not going to be punishing those who follow the rules in the long run, you'll see that in the update soon.

These ideas rock. I love seeing how involved you guys are with making us bigger and better for everyone, and I want to assure everyone this is only a temporary solution. I do know that we have something similar to what is being discussed in the process of development now. But, in order for us to get a handle on a very immediate problem, this is our temporary fix.

But, Rachel, if I can't use more than one card or use left over points (because, honestly, my left over 7 or 8 bucks aren't worth using alone) then what good are they?

I have a question: How did anyone earn enough points through farming to pay off $1400 in orders before being caught? It takes me months to generate that kind of money. Mooooooooooooonnnnnntt tttthhhhsssss!

I mean, I've definitely earned more than that in GCs and points combined, but I play by the rules, and it's been over the course of 10 months. I don't abuse the system. I don't post a gazillion comments every day just to earn my dollar, and I certainly don't spam the forums with threads. I don't vote on reviews that I haven't read. I certainly don't comment on reviews that I haven't read.

By the way, I'm not trying to criticize or say anything negatively about the company, but damn, $1400 is a lot of money. I thought there were safeguards built into the system for that kind of massive farming?

Unfortunately, the 'more often than not phrase' is pretty accurate. Rachel and I processed 3 orders totaling somewhere over $5000 in gift card points just last week. We aren't at the end of an era, we're just moving into a smarter way to make everyone happy, and to be able to truly support our supporters without having to take it in the rear from our abusers. So this option is our temporary means of getting there. Temporary being the operative word.

I understand this, but it means I will have to hold off on an order until something gets fixed, which means I won't be writing as many reviews.

I mean, how many of us reviewers have higher end toys and have been one of the first reviews because of our gift cards? I know there'd be no way I could possibly have some of the things I do without being able to use multiple gift cards.

Only being able to use one at a time presents a big challenge to both the loyal reviewers and the community. Things like video reviews and mentoring may decline because a $25 gift card doesn't go that far and means you have to pay shipping, as well.

I think they're talking about multiple accounts combining points to get that total. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for someone knowledgeable to crest a bit that farms points and create hundreds of accounts and combine the totals.

Perhaps a limit on gift cards used per order?

$1400 worth of gift cards for an order is a lot! I am not even sure if I have gotten that many on Eden in total. This isn't a problem when using gift cards from points over a long period of time, but for video reviews or winning contests where you get a $25 gift card it would be a pain to make multiple orders just to use 3 different gift cards I hope this doesn't stay this way forever. Separate orders also means using more boxes for a few things that could have easily fit in one box...

FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS? It takes me months to earn $100.00!

When I said "an end of an era" I guess it meant for me. I won't be able to place many orders with only being able to use one GF, because it takes me MONTHS to get enough to go over the $59.00 shipping amount.

It IS the end of an era for me. Sorry.

How the hell did anyone get that many points? So many of us are regular reviewers and it takes us MONTHS to earn 100.00 points. I don't get it.

Why not find the people who have multiple accounts (there are at least two who are still allowed to review and get points that I know of) those who earn more than a certain number of points a day, and keep track of how many videos etc people are doing.

I can't IMAGINE what someone would have done to earn FIVE THOUSAND dollars in points. Unless they have more than one account.
