Gift Card Update - Please Read

I didn't have a problem in placing an order last night - I used up two older giftcard points and some of my current points to pay for it. The email is already in when it requests it, but it always requires a phone number to be put in with the email addy.

Hmm. Probably just a glitch.

It's weird. I get the normal checkout screens if I'm trying to place an order for myself. However, if I'm trying to place a gift order, I get an alternate checkout page which is the one having issues. I've never actually seen this checkout page before.

Ditto. I was placing a gift order of an item from another contributor's wish list and had never seen these checkout pages either. And I had never before experienced a problem sending a gift to another recipient aside from myself.

Believe me, I'm quite experienced with placing EF orders and have become quite the pro. But this screen did not ask for a phone number--just an e-mail address (and unlike the normal checkout, this took me through a series of many more steps, though I only experienced problems on the very last step on the last screen). On the final screen, the e-mail address was already present in the required field, yet the system did not seem to recognize that it was there.

So, apparently this glitch is only a problem when sending another contributor a gift? This information will be helpful for tech to know.

[Edit: I revisited my Problem Placing an Order thread that is linked in one of my posts above and realized that my above hypothesis (stating that this glitch appears to be a problem only when placing a gift order) is a bit incomplete. Another contributor had the exact same problem when trying to accept her assignment. She had to add another item to the shipment and then pay the difference by credit card to get the order to go through.]

This was my idea also. I think that it is a pretty good idea. Only thing that I said different was that orders over $150 should have to provide card info or something. But your idea of all accounts is even better! And the ID number someone stated is pretty good, this would verify age. Plus it would also verify that there is only one account per address. This is really good idea in my opinion, to help save the points program.

I wouldn't want to make it one per address, imagine the problems that would cause: "Um mom...I was going to buy this...um thing...but I can't because you already have an account here..."

I'm 19 and I don't own a credit card. I still live at home and the parents pay for everything, or I use their debit card. So I don't have an actual card attached to my name...

That's why I included the other ways idea, Shellz31 pointed out that you could you could use your driver's license, that'd actually be better verification than credit cards.

re: "what stops those scammers buying [gift cards] with their points"

Somewhere in the thread, either Jaimes or Rachel said that gift cards cannot be purchased with Edenpoints.

Quick note on the purchasing-giftcards-w ith-points issue...

Currently, you have the ability to buy gift cards with points. We do understand this is a possible loophole for our naughty-naughty farmers. But rather than over-complicate the buying power of our points any more, we're just going to keep an eye out. The minimum gift card amount is $25, and that takes a little work to get enough points for, so rather than discourage people from buying gift cards as gifts for friends and family, since a large portion of our community does that around the holidays, we are just going to monitor suspicious behavior. Luckily, this new system has greatly helped us do away with our large loopholes, and since we are aware of this small one, we can better monitor it. Thanks for being flexible and supportive!

Also, per our amazing community staff, we have a little fix for those that enjoy gifting points to students. Most, if not all of you, regularly earn yourselves standard Eden gift cards. Our community staff has offered to split those gift cards amounts into smaller gift cards. ie. If you earn a $25 gift card doing a video review, or in a contest, you can request your contact to split it into five $5 gift cards. Those gift cards will be the universal type, so your students will be able to use them freely.

To clarify, we still can't gift points. They are locked to the account that earned them. It would just open up all of our previously closed loopholes if we adjusted that. However, regular gift cards that are awarded for different assignments or contests can be split apart. We do request for the sanity of our community team that the gift card amounts be in even, equal amounts. One $25 card = five $5 cards.

I know it's been said, but I don't point farm but I do sometimes get a gift card and use my points and stack up on them to buy something big... so I hope we can find a way around these things.

Check the recent updates. You can now use unlimited points gift cards, as long as they belong to your account.

WOW! This is a fantastic solution! You guys really are the BEST! Thank you so much for all your hard work and willingness to allow all of us to keep doing what we've been doing. I really hope this will help you guys out in the future, you really are so generous!

I hope this thread is still being read by the EF staffers---I wonder if it's time to update the Points Program How It Works page. I'm looking forward to placing an order tomorrow and haven't quite figured out the new process yet---it would be good if the written FAQ matched the new system.

Considering that most days, lately, I don't even earn my full points for commenting in the forums, it would take me a decade or more, I think.

EDIT: Specifically, if my earning repeated the pattern that it has over the past 10 months, it would take me approximately 12 years as I've only earned a little over $330 in the past 10 months.

I've been so busy that I'm not even earning $1 a day as I used to. So at the rate I'm going now it would take me 5 years to reach $1,552 and 16 years to reach the $5,000! Just insanity.

Which just goes to show that this was pulled off with bots and that even the every-day point farmers could never pull off such a feat without being detected. And while it's great to flag obvious farming, if you know there's a person attached to an account (i.e., actual commentary in the forums that are related to the conversation, conversation on walls, or a response to a PM) then there's usually no harm in their farming.

And let's be honest, ALL OF US, when we first joined the site, did almost all we could to earn points. We all farmed to a degree. Once we got to know the site, the people on it, etc.. that's when we lay off and start loving EF for what it is.

I'm thrilled that I can still reward my students. Excellent way of doing it too!
And same with the bought gift cards.

That's certainly made my night - I'll go sleep well now.

Just seeing this now and I did read every page but I do have one question just to clarify:

I gifted a gift card that I made from points a couple of months ago, and I can see under my account that it has not yet been spent. Is this gift card now bound to me or is this only for cards made from here on out? Should I contact her an send her a new card?

That card is bound to your account. You would have to use either GCs given by EF or purchase a hardcopy one.

can someone from EF just make a simple announcement outlining what has been decided upon.

Oh MY. I am new enough to EF that when I read about all this point farming stuff I though we were maybe speaking a couple hundred dollars by a COUPLE people. $5000???? How on earth can anyone get that, when there are daily "limits" on every activity that earns "points"??? That is wild.

Now I understand the level of concern by EF. No business could take that pounding.

Nothing is easy in cyberspace, is it?

Holy mother of pearl! $1400 WHAT?! Is that even possible? Oh my! I am really apalled by this. Mind blown! That is such a shame that people can't just be happy with how nice it is already. Why be THAT greedy? I'm sorry, but 1400 dollars is ALOT! That's sad because most of us love, love, love this place and not JUST because we can earn things we enjoy. I do have a question though. I'm sure it's a dumb one. Lol. I've never used the gift card and just want to make sure. You get 1 gift card when you request it no matter what your balance is, right? OK Say I have $100 that can be turned into a gift card will that be all on one? Sorry to even bother with asking. Just wanting to make sure. I mean how would you get 1400 dollars worth of gift cards? Just by saving them? I was asking this because I realized my points added up to $60 something yesterday and I wanted to get things straight before I request mine and use it.
