The short of the long is, either way - regardless of who was elected, Romney or Obama, the results would be the same. A president only has so much influence over what happens in regards to policy changes. It's the people voting and lobbying that make a real difference.

Do you think the way we manage our politics in the United States needs to be reformed? If so, how do you propose we change things to more accurately reflect what the American people want?

Which of these do you agree with?
We need honest politicians, not career politicians.

Political salaries should be capped and the perks and freebies need to go away.

There should be an even better checks and balances system, I'll explain in my comment.

We need to stop focusing on parties and bi-partisanship and just focus on getting the job done.

It's far, far more complicated than this and I don't have the solution or am not sure there even is a solution.

Additionally, pork barreling and obstructionism in the House and Senate(i.e. filibustering) are in desperate need of reform.

That's a very, very good point.

we have got to have honest politicians and ones who will work together. This splitting the red and blue has to stop or things are never going to get any better. The personal agendas need to be left at the front door and this goes from the president down to county commissioners and school boards.
Our nation needs to pull together regardless if you voted for Obama or not.

Who knows what would happen if "the other guy" got elected, or if the "current guy" had never been elected? It might have been better. But it might not have been either. It's a crap shoot.

We need to forget about parties and find concentrate on what the person can do or has done. We need honest politicians who have a plan and will do what they say they will do.I also think that pay for politicians should be no higher than what the lowest paid average middle class person would make. Maybe if they are a part of the middle class they would care more about the middle class.

I agree with putting the parties aside to come together as a whole and focus on what needs to be done. I don't think Obama or Romney are what is needed for this country right now but that doesn't matter now. I think there should be a cap on all their salaries, there's a lot more people in this country that do more important jobs that only make a tiny fraction of a politicians salary (ie teachers). America needs to make some huge changes

Yes it needs to be reformed but without a miracle, I havent figured out how yet!We also need to get Obama out of office. Cannot believe that Americans would vote him back in. He doesnt even believe in America and has absolutely no respect for our flag, let alone the American people.

I think there needs to be a limit to how much the government representatives get paid.

I think everyone needs to work together regardless of political party and do what is best for the government as a whole.

I think that if people are displeased with their representatives (this matters more on a state level), I think it should be a lot easier to get them out of office and elect someone else in a special election.

I would also like to see the Tea Party just done away with. Radical Republicans are horrifying and aren't doing anybody good. I have a few in my family that are just off their rockers.

I really enjoyed this essay written by Rob Ellsworth that I found on Facebook:
Sincerely, A Proud American

We need to stop looking at it as Republican versus Democrat. It should be about which “party” the politician is from; it should be about their positions and what they will actually do

Just commenting, but I don't like to get involved on discussions of politics.

Well the president can't do a whole lot in regards to laws, just say no. Hopefully though, we will see some more sex positive things this term, specifically the stigmas surrounding being homosexual. #BillofRights

In a perfect world I don't think there would be parties. They cause stereotypes and stubbornness.

My opinion is based on watching him when ever he is on tv and every one stands and puts their hands over their heart to say the pledge of allegence and he just stands there, hands at his sides! I believe he even made a comment one time about our flag. Until several reporters asked him about it did he start wearing the little flag pin on his lapel.
