Editors and Reviewers, what happened?

Contributor: Mistress M. Mistress M.
I have been in and out of Eden since 2011, due to moves and job changes and life simply just happening. Which it does to all of us, but now that I'm back to stay I have found myself rather disappointed in what I've come back to.

I went in and looked at two reviews that were pending publishing, and what I found was the absolute minimal work done on anything that I looked at. I understand that many reviewers didn't have the opportunity I did when I started, as I was a personal real life friend with someone who was once one of the best reviewers on Eden.

However, the new review prompts that were put in place at least give a good guideline on things to include, and most of the information you need is printed on either an insert or the packaging itself. So seeing these reviews that only really focused on how much they did or did not like the item, and had no real information for someone who might be looking to buy this toy.

What really really ground my gears more than anything was the comment I found where an Editor told them they simply couldn't publish the review because it was discounted. I submitted said review back to the reviewer because there was simply no information in it.

The whole feel of what was done by the reviewer and the editor was just to earn the points and get the rating.

I'm honestly -not- trying to upset anyone. This is why I purposefully left out names because this isn't about a fight. This is about a problem that is starting to appear more and more here on Eden Fantasys that I feel that we need to address.

I understand that the program doesn't work like it did in the good ol' days, believe me, but at the same time we are still being given free products by Eden, we are still being given points to put towards our purchases for the work that is done here, and I feel that we need to be working to make sure that the company is still getting quality work for what they are giving us.

So please, before you respond to this in anger, understand that I'm merely trying to get reviewers and editors to come around about some of the things that have been making a passing mark on this site. So that we can hopefully bring newer reviewers back up and have them work on this problem.

Sincerely,
M.

I will agree on the fact that the discontinued item review thing stinks. I have had several nicely done reviews arrive DOA because the toy was discontinued before I could even get the review in.

I have had some really great students who are still putting out great reviews on this site as we speak. I have had some that needed a lot of help and were willing to take constructive criticism and improve with it. I have had a ton of students that get the first free toy to review and I never hear from them again. The biggest problem are the students that just can't take any suggestions to improve a review or even try to correct their egregious spelling and grammar errors in their reviews.

It is still a great program if the all participants are willing to do the job correctly. At some point however you reach the point of how many free sex toys does one person really need. I am for sure at that point and have only received one toy to review for free in the last 6-8 months (review pending) This site seems cyclical and all the old makes way for the new. Most of the members that were at the top when I started are all gone now with new blood rising to the top.

Just some thoughts.

Oh, so the word 'discounted' in the first post is supposed to be 'discontinued'? I was really confused as to why a review could not be placed on the site for a discounted toy.

This site does cycle quite a bit. As I mentioned, I've been here for awhile and I do occasionally have to break because of real life, but every time I do I always make my way home and this time I was just surprised.

And you are right. It seems like most of this issue is reviwers who simply don't want to put in all the work, take suggestions or even try to work on grammar and spelling. Which, the grammar and spelling do not bother me nearly as much as the ones who simply don't put in the effort.

What we, as editors need to do is STOP publishing then until they are real reviews that are actually worth publishing. That means posting comment and telling them what to do to fix the review. If the review is released, the next editor needs to stand firm with the first. It's the only way these reviews are going to get better.

And always suggest they get a Mentor!

Yes, I meant discontinued. This is what happens when my brain tries to function between 2 and 4 am. LoL.

Thank you for sharing your opinion! You mentioned some great points on how we can improve reviews, that worth to be considered and applied.

Regarding the issue with the review on the discontinued item, Eden's today's regulations prescribe not to publish reviews on products that are no longer produced and won't be selling anymore. So an editor acted in accordance with the rules. Nevertheless, I think the remarks and recommendations you gave that reviewer in comments could be helpful for his future work.

Sorry that you feel disappointed, but I must say, there are a lot of fantastic reviews and plenty of responsible and dedicated reviewers who strive hard on doing their job thoroughly and extremely good.

I'm utterly excited that you've come back to Eden's life. I hope your considerable experience, wide knowledge and in-depth expertise will help to boost the quality of reviews and take them to a higher level!

It's not just on the discontinued item's that I'm finding that this happens. What I've been doing is making comments and submitting them back to the reviewer in hopes that they'll "bulk up" their review and put a bit more effort into it.

Just today, I read a great review by someone who was submitting their first review. I was honestly surprised by it!
