Summer Skin: How do you keep it safe? - Click here to read this great article by our Contributor of the Month for June - unfulfilled!

Summer is brutal on the skin. Well, really any kind of extreme weather can cause damage from wind burn to sun burn. It's how you treat it and work to prevent it from happening in the first place that counts. One of my favorite things in this article is the Noxema trick. That stuff really is the bomb when it comes to sunburns, I've used it plenty of times in my life.

What are some of your worst sun burn experiences so far? Are you worried about too much sun exposure? What is your preferred method of preventing sunburns when you're outside?

Don't forget to share the love in the comments on the article!

I sunbathe all the time, and I always use a tanning oil that contains some SPF. Usually I only use SPF 10 or less when I am lounging by the pool (I rarely go to the beach), and I reapply very frequently.
I use a moisturizer for my face that has SPF 15. My other facial makeup has SPF 15 also.
I have only been burnt a few times, but that was mostly during my childhood. My mom would use Aloe Vera to treat our burns.

I don't really sunbathe but when I am out I do tan. Never used a bed and don't really use sunscreen. Never been sunburned before. The closest I got was my skin peeling and that was in the Florida heat the first time I went.

I am afraid of getting sunburned because I want my skin to look good when I'm older. I use SPF 55 whenever I know I'm going to be out for more than an hour. Aloe vera gel is great for treating sunburns, it's what I always used when I was a kid.

I am a big believer in protecting my skin so I wear sunblock that is SPF 50 or higher if I can find it. I'm lucky enough that I tan easily but manage to not get sunburned often. This means that just walking around in the sun will lead to a tan but I don't need a tanning bed or to lay our in the sun.

When i was a kid, I use to bake in the sun daily. Mostly laying on the black trampolen and using butter. Very bad for the skin. Latter after I had children I stoped wearing shorts or short sleves. Things have changed this summer. I have laid out four times so far for less than one hour each time. I want to get the ghost white gone from my body. Although, I am very concerned about my skin aging and looking bad. Also, I have noticed that since this summer I am starting to get dark splotches on my face. IDK if it is connected or not.

My moisturizer is SPF 30 and I put more on if I'm out for extended periods.

I love to sun bathe but I usually wear usually under a 15SPF on the "fatty" parts of my skin as that is all I can tolerate. I've never been burned really, where the skin hurts and I cannot move and all that jazz, but I have had sun or heat stroke. The only part of my body that has ever had issues with the sun are my breasts where one year when I visited Thailand for a couple of months and literally burned the fatty tissue of my breasts from the sun. I still have the minor scars!

But other than that, I've never had issues with the sun before.

Usually, I just cannot be bothered to wear sun screen as it causes just as many problems as the sun.

Always try to put on sunscreen, but sometimes I spend more time outside in direct sun than I originally planned to.

I most of the time remember to apply sunscreen if I know I'm going to be outside for prolonged periods of time and reapply when necessary. I never go "tanning" or sunbathe as that would just be pointless, I don't tan, never have.

I pretty much only put sunscreen on my face.

I have lovely tan skin that lets me get away with not worrying about sunburns, in part because I never burn, and partially because I so rarely go out into the sun. I'll put on sunblock just to be safe if I know I'll be in the sun and exposed (like at the beach), but otherwise I don't bother. And I'm so rarely out doors for long period of time, I hardly ever sunbathe because I don't like being over heated and also because bright light+heat=migraines very often.

I was a lifeguard for 8 years growing up. I used to be in the sun for hours on end. I always put sunscreen on in the morning, but a lot of days I would forget to re-apply. I got burnt quite a few times back then, but now I always put on sunscreen if I'm going to be outdoors. I don't do tanning beds though. They gross me out.

Can't believe to see my article up there.

When I was in high school before Prom I would use the tanning bed, but haven't done that in years. I'm outside with the kiddos so I end up getting a tan unintentionally.

I love sunbathing but it's just so hot right now. There is no way I will risk a sunburn. I have gotten sunburned several times and I don't like it, although I loved the tan afterwards. I always use at least SPF 15 but if the sun is strong I will use SPF 30. I read somewhere that a sunscreen above SPF 30 is not that much different than the SPF 30.

I used to lay out in the sun and go to the tanning bed and always burnt at least once a year...until I had a precancerous mole removed...now I use sunscreen with at least 30SPF or 50 if I can find it.
What tan I get it is from mowing grass or riding the motorcycle.

Surprise! It's hard to avoid the sun, and that sucks. I mostly go out at night these days.

It's also super important to drink lots of water! It actually helps your skin as well as keeps you hydrated.

I use the highest spf I can find and use a separate sunscreen product on my face that is made specifically for the face and won't clog my pores. I never lay out or do anything to tan.

I use SPF50 because I'm usually at the beach all day and very active in the water. I will put it on at least 4 times if I'm there all day. Still I usually go home kinda reddish!

I don't purposely tan, but do get a little sun when outdoors sometimes if I know I'm not going to be out in direct sunlight too long. Otherwise, I wear SPF 50. I have very fair skin and burn very easily.
