What one thing screams seventies to you?

The Seventies. We've got a pretty good range of age groups here on EF; folks who were teens in the seventies, folks who were born in the seventies and folks who have only experienced the seventies via that Aston Kutcher show.

I love the seventies. Everything was horrible and yet everything makes me recall my childhood. My brother's grass green first communion suit, my mom singing along with the Bee Gees. Wonder Woman. Suffering Sapphos!

What about you? What one thing screams seventies to you? Was it the most horrible time? Or chock full of awesomesauce?

We really want to put one of my gay friends in a white bikini and a Farah Fawcett wig and take calendar-style pictures. It would be so glorious.

When I think disco I think early 80's and cocaine, lol.

Polyester Leisure Suits scream 70's to me too! As do key parties and Singapore Slings... I keep trying to push this cocktail on people and for good reason! They're all making a comeback!

I'm so totally having a Singapore Sling at the wedding I'm going to this weekend! (I don't, however, have the balls to feather my hair. Lol)

Being a child of the late 80's, the first contact I got of the 70's was watching the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show, where to this day, I still believe that was the sexiest Tim Curry could ever be. :3

I think it was goldenrod yellow. I once had a refridgerator that color.

I hated both the yellow and the green of the 70's. So much so that I purposely avoid them in all of my home decor.

I was just flipping through some old thread and opened this one. How odd that I opened one that had Farah Fawcett on it after she just lost her battle with cancer. Kinda sad!

Oh, I adore this topic!

My parents' wedding photo - my mother in an awful K-Mart burgundy knit dress with lace at the bib and short bubble sleeves. My dad with flared trousers and a tight polo shirt.

That navy paisley-print bandana my mother always wore to keep her one-length straight hair out of her face. In fact, paisley anything.

My first haircuts were always bowl haircuts.

My grandmother's polyester pantsuits in mint and light aqua! With the faux-satin blouse of ugly patterns/colors beneath it.

My aunt the fashion model in satin cami sets in her ad shoot photos with her short feathered hair. (I recall a lot of her portfolio of the period had her in the Biba fashions.)

Wide cars with fastbacks and NO auto transmission. (My dad was always driving those types.)

Under-Roos! I had Wonder Woman and R2D2 prints.

The Muppet Show ... I grew up with a warped sense of humor because of them, and I'm proud of it.

Holly Hobbie - the original Holly Hobbie. I was collecting the old stuff before the new one came out and caused the old stuff to skyrocket in price.

And I always have a soft spot in my heart for 'The Rockford Files', especially for James Garner (yum).

I totally agree about Tim Curry; he rocked that look like a pro. It's one of my favorite movies

My parents where young adults in the seventies, so they were certainly influenced by that era. Me, not so much, but I love me some classic rock. There's nothing like a little Freddie Mercury in my opinion

My parents still have it on the walls in their living room, and they only recently got rid of their avocado-green refrigerator. They still have the yellow-orange oven and countertops, too.

Any one of those options works for me. But as a kid growing up riding that Huffy (actually mine was a Schwinn, purple with springer front end and a three speed) with a banana seat, Evil was like a god. After watching a jump, all my friends would meet and build jumps. We would find toys or bikes to jump, sometimes each other.
Wonder Woman grrrr oh ya.
Good times and great memories.

My other favorite was when the Denver Broncos when to the Supper bowl. Dad brought home Orange Crush and ice cream and made orange floats for the game.

The orange and avocado stuff. When I was a kid, EVERYTHING in our house was either avocado or 70s orange. Bleh!

We also had a Tiki room. No kidding. My father fashioned himself as an Interior Designer and we had Tiki God masks on the walls, fish nets with glass ball floaters in them, a crab cage for a light fixture, Tiki God Drinking Glasses, star fish and shells everywhere. The whole thing. My mother HATED it, and it was so freaky and cool. I wish I knew where this stuff was now. I'd totally go retro with our dining room and The Man would spazz out when he got home and saw Tiki Gods and shells hanging on the walls.
