New Forum Option

Contributor: Alan & Michele Alan & Michele
It would be nice to have an "Ignore" button under users' names in the forums, so we had the option of blocking those who are just spamming or always being obnoxious. I think it would go far in encouraging more people to have conversations.

I think that is a good idea. Spammers are supposed to be removed when observed. Or the post can be flagged. Then EF can remove it.

This would have been a great option back in the day. However, with the few people that regularly participate in the forums now I don't think it is necessary. Now the people that spam seem to disappear on their own anyway

What I would like to see is a button or way to have a person following you be removed.

Or drive good ones out, unfortunately with venom.

How rude! If you can't be respectful, don't say anything. And no, this is not a joke. It's not funny. Blatant mockery is never funny & is not acceptable here.

In responding to the ignore button topic here -

What a great idea Michele!

Some individuals always have to say something in every discussion, even when it adds nothing positive &/or useful. Not only that, there have been some very negative & unfriendly comments made in discussions for quite some time, even in some recent discussion posts over the past couple weeks. Maybe they're attention seekers or want to be the center of attention or, just plain obnoxious as pointed out by OP, or, who knows.

And then there are always those that have to post just to be making a post, nothing relevant to topic - why?

That's spam, folks.

For anyone who doesn't know about the EOC - Expectations of Conduct, EF expects everyone participating in the Forum to read, understand, & follow the EOC.

And everyone needs to remember what Obscura (our Community Mgr. at the time) said Nov 18, 2015: she will not allow total disregard for the EOC & will protect the Community from those who violate it.

@Edeneve, I have no beef with what you've said, except, I think you might have missed the joke in TheToyGuy's post? He was quoting the originator's of the spam song, Monty Python (in the link he included). I guess it can look otherwise, but I personally did not take it that way when I first read it. I suppose only he can explain. Granted I have not been back long, but from what I've seen thus far of TheToyGuy's comments, they seem within the EOC and often further the discussions. I just wanted to suggest an alternative view and we shall see what the case may be; let's give him a chance to clarify? (I don't see how this is mockery, just silliness, that's all.)

And this kind of illustrates why I suggested the Ignore button. Some people just rub other people wrong. It happens. And while we all have to tolerate it in the workplace or school environments, it would be nice to be able to click a simple button to eradicate it from a place where we go to relax.

Agreed!!!! Good point and an excellent way to bring it all back around to your original post

Alan&Michele, thank you for being so thoughtful, and everyone else, too, - it's always nice to know that our forum members care and think of ways to improve our community.

The "Ignore" button seems to be an interesting idea, and I'll definitely bring it up at our next staff meeting. We'll discuss the idea and see if it's technically possible.

As far as spammers "disappearing" goes - they don't really disappear on their own. Our vigilant community members will flag and/or report them, then we take care of the rest.

I would have to put my 2 cents in and 2nd the support here for ToyGuy. I'm not sure the ruffled feathers warranted the verbal attack he got. People are just way too quick to attack one another and it's sad.

It's not ruffled feathers. If all of you knew the whole story, you would see what's been going on all over this site for 2 years.
