If discontinued means that eden isn't going to sell this any more, than why does the product page and its reviews still exist? If you find the review first, read it and then click for the product page, it's pretty annoying to realize that its been discontinued. So do you think these should be deleted? Or can you think of another way to fix this problem?
Should discontinued products and their reviews be removed from the site?

1. Nothing is forever. Just because EF discontinues an item does not mean it might not come back.
2. A discontinued item that can be sterilized/sanitized might be available as a used toy. As such, the prospective buyer might find a review helpful to help them learn about the toy.
3. Often times a review has similar/related items linked in the review. If you are interested in an item that is now discontinued, the review may help you find a similar product.
4. Reviews impact a contributors rank. I'm not sure how a review could be deleted without negatively affecting rank.

Sometimes you just need to move on - get rid of them!

I second everything here, and would like to add that it is also unfair to delete works of any kind that someone is proud of. I know if any of my reviews were deleted I would be devastated! I work hard on them, and the thought of one of them going missing would probably bring me to actual tears.

Just because Eden doesn't have a product anymore doesn't mean you can't buy it somewhere else but read the reviews here, other sites don't seem to have that great of a review and rating system.

Even discontinued toys from dismantled companies can come back--look at Jollies toys; we ALL thought those were gone forever, but they're still in production and those reviews have been really valuable to me in figuring out if I want to purchase one.

One solution would be to have an area for discontinued items on EF, an archive of items that EF no longer carries--does not mean they manufacturer quit making them, just that they are no longer needed here. .
The item has to be discontinued for about 6 months to a year first--due to the review and possibility that it might be brought back. That way they are still up and on the site, they would show up in a search, you could still read the review prior to purchasing it elsewhere, the reviewer would still have all reviews they published on the site and maybe there could be a showcase toy, find this toy etc. contests to promote traffic to that section.
It would really help lessen the confusion on if an item is just not in stock, if it is brand new and has not been fully integrated onto the site, and would really lessen support tickets and staff time could be freed up for other jobs. It would also streamline getting assignments, reading reviews, etc.

Everything Kindred said and this! I have lots of my reviews saved to hard drive, but not all of them. If one was deleted, I'd be PISSED.

I say keep them, they come in handy for sure.
07/02/2012
I think it'd be nice if they could disappear, but be stored somewhere off-site in the case that they come back.
07/02/2012
I feel like they should stay up.But,I think so just because If someone like me bought the item before getting on EF and seeing the reviews they might (like I have) want to see the reviews and see what other people think of it.
07/02/2012
Our reviews are our writing. They should be kept on our pages, but the product page of the item should perhaps be removed.
07/02/2012
They should stay up. I'm not going to add anything because Kindred said it all.
07/02/2012
no they should stay

I think to de-clutter the site a bit, it'd be nice to remove it. Sometimes I'll read an awesome review and the product won't be available anywhere.

I think they can still be helpful, so no. I spend lots of time writing those things and I'd feel hallow and empty inside to see them disappear lol.

Just a couple weeks ago I had an assigned review and a buyout that were both discontinued by the time I got my package in the mail. I worked hard on my reviews and submitted them anyway. Both items are still available for purchase elsewhere. I would be devastated if my reviews got deleted. I don't see why it bothers anyone to have them on the site anyway. Especially if the product has not been discontinued by the manufacturer. But even so, those reviews can still provide some insight to similar items on the site.
07/03/2012
I think that they should be left. I understand why people wouldn't want them there. However, after being a reviewer I don't want some of my work to vanish especially after putting SO much work into each one.
07/03/2012
Keep them, just because Eden doesn't carry it doesn't mean I couldn't find it at another site if I really wanted to or it may come back. I'd hate for any of my reviews to be deleted.
07/03/2012
It's actually particularly hard to find an item that's been properly discontinued. It doesn't show up if you search for it, so the only way to reach the product page is if you click through from a review on a contributor's profile. That alone limits the number of people who will ever reach the page, so I see no real problem with leaving things the way they are.
07/03/2012
Might come back, and also helpful for google searchers.
07/03/2012
keep the old reviews. even if Eden doesn't carry it anymore it might come back. not many other sites do reviews like Eden so its nice to have the reviews even if you have to get it someplace else.

Nice answer Kindred!

This response is good to know! Thanks. Even if the item never comes back to EF, someone can always find another website or maybe a local adult store to find that item. Take for example erotica books; you can always find another site to purchase the book (or even DVD's)!

That is why sometime you may want to start a "new thread" by titling it (specifically) and making a 'link' to the particular review or group of reviews by the specific contributor.

Okay, I can see why keeping them around makes sense. But can't there be an option to keep discontinued things from showing up in your toy searches? Or that their reviews say that the toy is currently discontinued? I just think its an exercise in frustration to find things without these options.
