It's illegal to buy toys if you're under 18. I don't know about owning them though. I'm pretty sure you are allowed to have them if, for example, your 18+ y/o friend goes out and buys you one for your birthday, but don't quote me on that. also, if you're under 18, you shouldn't even be on this site. Or ANY other sex shop, porn site, or erotic forums. Everyone is going to answer no.

Well Spencers isn't exactly the "caring" store. They really don't give a rat's ass about anything other than they are getting more money. Sex shops EVERYWHERE are supposed to be checking the IDs, but again, most don't or they don't even care, they just care about money. However, they can get into SERIOUS trouble if they were found and convicted.

I think that it's stupid to make buying sex toys illegal for those under the age of 18. I honestly do not see any reason why this law needs to exist. However, it does, so Edenfantasys abides by it as it should.

Spencers has changed their policy about under-aged people. They will let you in the store, but they won't let you into the back half where all the sex stuff is. They also aren't supposed to let you buy from that section if you're underage.

hahaha what? THATS SO NOT TRUE.. i just turned 18 and i was back there a few months ago and i have been shopping for viberators there since i was 15-17 but now that im 18 i can use this site. idk to be honest i dont realy want to go into sex shops.. i dont know there scare me. ahha but that 18 rule at specners is such a lie.. i been back there and bought things sooo many times and i had one friend me and her used to go and get stuff together and they let us both buy.. spencers is so lieing about that 18 rule..

They aren't lying... Spencers is basically like a sex shop. Nude photography, erotic toys and gags make it into a small sex shop. Therefor, they are applicable to the 18+ law. If they are selling to minors, they aren't supposed to be. More and more spencers I go to (I travel a bit and that's my favorite store) are HAVING to check ID's because of it.

My wife (fiance at the time) was actually not allowed to go into their erotic section because she was 17. They wouldn't let her because they changed their policy for minors. Now, please do the following for whichever browser applies to you:

Firefox: Click Tools, Options, and then go to the "Advanced" tab. Then check the box "Check my spelling as I type".

Internet Explorer: Go here and PLEASE download and install.

Opera 10: Go to context menu and click "Spell Checking".

Thank you. I was hoping you would say something about this before I felt the need to.

Honestly, Mariah.. rules are in place for certain reasons. You may feel like people should be allowed to own sex toys at any age, but for others it just doesn't seem adequate or responsible for someone to sell sex toys to someone under age. When this happens, you are technically introduced to pornography which when being under age could place someone in a positions of indecent exposure to a minor. I am pretty sure that is why these rules are in effect for minors. It stems from not only pornography, but exposure to children, and other laws that prevent the corruption of the under-aged mind and purity.

I hope I stated this in some understandable matter. 10 hour workdays do not agree with me.

well based upon this poll im mostly alone in my thinking, BUT i feel that "indecent exposure" is a silly crime and that there are NO victims as long as adequate instruction on sex and sexuality is in place. I KNOW that there are studies that have found that NO harm comes from a child seeing the occasional tit or dick.

This is SO well put. There is a lot that goes into making laws what they are. When you change one law it affects others along the way. Just be happy you can buy toys at 18 and not 21 like some states.

Same by me. Well, if you look like you may be underage, they check at the door. I look 'of age' (I'm 28 and have stopped getting carded places )and my boyfriend is 14 years my senior so we never gets questioned.

But we were in a local B&M store over the weekend looking at dvd's and sure enough, a couple of kids walked in, were immediately carded, and asked to leave.

I used to go to Spencers all the time when I was under 18. If they noticed us back there they would shoo us out, but they usually didn't notice. I never tried to buy anything though...

I agree with you. While seeing some things in the late teenage years probably doesn't affect most people, seeing some of the more graphic images in the younger teens or even to those that have been VERY sheltered can be shocking, and can lead to them being sexualized before they're mentally and emotionally prepared. I think it's a situation of 'better safe than sorry.'

What states have the law at 21? o.O

All adult stores I go to they check ID, me especially because even though I am 23, I look 17. (Doesn't help I dress like a teenage tomboy either, lol.) I don't go to Spencers, their selection sucks, I'd rather just go to an actual store or shop online.

And i agree with Tori, i was sheltered all my life, never saw an actual dick until i was 21 (same time I touched my first one, I didn't know they were so soft or balls so squishy!) and I think 18 is a good age. I'd be okay with 16 as well, because I feel it may help lower the teen pregnancy rate, but it's just my opinion. If I ever have children (which I really don't, but if it happens) I'll be getting them their first at 16. I'd rather be safe than sorry and be educating them to prevent a problem from happening and being a grandmother too early. x_X; All speculation, though, as I am trying real hard to not have children, lol.

We have this problem on Bad Dragon, people underaged getting on the forums. It's harder to regulate it on there because not everyone has the ability to take a picture of their ID and send it in to be verified.

I agree with this law fully. If you are under 18 and want a sex toy ask your parent to go buy you one or to let you choose one online and pay for it through paypal or their card. Some parents are obviously not going to allow this, but most, when face with the reality that it is either a vibrator or an actual dick, will probably not have too much of a problem with the idea you opting for the vibrator.

I feel similarly about sex. If you cannot actually talk to somebody about it, you probably aren't ready. You will always have your own hands to work with until you are mature enough to deal with the discomfort a conversation might bring up. Some people really ARE very innocent and sheltered and cannot deal with being faced with the reality of sex at a young age. I think television is already sexualizing things to a point of fucking up our youth, and our childrens youth, we don't have to make the situation worse.

I would also like to say I do not like the idea of 15 or 16 yr old boys being allowed to go and buy up dildos and vibrators all willy nilly. With the exception of gay youth, or those actually interested in using them for their intended purpose I cannot see that going anywhere good. I also would worry that they would be used, not cleaned properly and shared and there could be a lot of nasty things being spread and transmitted. This is also a possibility with people above the age of 18, but I think over the age of 18 people are generally a lot more knowledgeable about this issue.

When you're young it is hard to understand rules and laws. In the mind of a very young person, the idea is: I want to do this, so I should be able to do whatever I want. In actuality, things that you want to do are not necessarily things you should do.

But the 18 and older "rule" is not a rule, it is a law. And EF and other companies can be shut down, and even prosecuted, if there is an infraction of that law. I think we, as members of this community who really care about it, would do whatever we could to protect this community, so we aren't going to suggest they break the law.

As KarleeCharm said, there's a risk of being exposed to pornography here. Either in conversation of an erotic nature, by clicking someone's links on their profiles, etc. Eden Fantasys, nor any other sex community, can take the risk that there are children here.

And no, I don't work for EF nor am I a lawyer.

HA! Spencer's doesn't give a shit. Money is money. They do that in Saint Louis too.

And I'm not fucking with the age thing. I didn't get my first til 19. There's a law and companies can get in trouble for violating it if caught. Not good business practice. I don't personally care about the law, but whatever. People get around laws all the time. Shit happens

Ah, yes. I should have read your comment first. Amen sister.

And on another note, sex toy shops can be super sketch...I wouldn't go to one unless I was with a bunch of friends male and female (and I haven't deviated from that). You never know what kind of people can hang out there. And unfortunately, if you're in a sex toy shop, some skeezy guy could give you trouble assuming you're easy. The male pervert mind is not very complex. :/ Ugh

That can also depend on the store though. The two closest to my house can be a little seedy and they also both have peep show back rooms. While the next 2 closest to me are both remarkably clean and very nice and secure. But if you go into say, a Babeland store, they are not at all sketchy and are clean, well organized, and designed as well as any high end department store.
