Oh, I understand. I guess I'm assuming the ones that don't card would be more seedy, course that's just an assumption on my part.

I'm not sure. I guess it's probably that it would be more likely that way? All of the ones by me card, no matter what - and it's probably more stringent because 3 of the 4 I frequent have peep shows as well.

I know a couple girls who worked in sex shops in Toronto and they had to deal with men jerking off all over the greeting cards and porn. There were also a lot of lewd remarks being thrown around. This was a pretty well known and respected shop on a busy main st as well.

I don't think anyone under the age of 18 should be able to purchase toys, not because I think people under 18 shouldn't be using toys but more because we're losing milestones left and right in this day and age. I couldn't wait until I was 18 so I could walk into the local headshop and get whatever I wanted. Had I asked for a vibrator my mother probably would have let me pick one through a catalog and order it for me but it wasn't key to my sexual development and I doubt having a toy under 18 would have quelled any sort of curiosity I may have had.

I think buying toys, and using forums should be open to those under 18. The age 18 is an arbitrary number that has little to do with actual maturity and brain development. Just like all of us, those that are younger than 18 have a right to explore their bodies and their sexuality and enjoy the wisdom and encouragement that people here share.

It can depend. The adult forums I go to, they also share porn and role play sexually with each other. By having underaged people it puts the forum at risk with child pornography and they could have been shut down.

I wouldn't say that if you cannot have that conversation with your parents you aren't ready. I know mine would have absolutely flipped out and I would have been grounded if I approached them asking for a sex toy. There are a lot of parents out there who are not at all laidback.

Agreed. My dad will kick me out if he finds my toys, and I'm over 20, so that says a lot.

Some parents are just prudes and sex is a taboo issue. It happens.

I agree which is why I said that this would not work with all parents.

Contact your local congressman. It's a federal and state imposed law. I don't mean that in a snarky way, really. Since EF is a website and therefore nationwide, there would have to be law revision in every state to allow them to make a sale/allow posting in the forums, anyone under the age of 18. This would truly be a feat too, because in some states, like Alabama, you're not even allowed to purchase/own sex toys.

I think if you're underage (meaning under 18 or 21, whatever the applicable law is) then you simply need to deal with it; it's the law. Whether or not it's "right" has no meaning, I know many under 18 mature enough to handle sex toys, and many over 18 not mature enough to handle getting dressed in the morning. It's really too bad it can't be a case by case basis. As for porn I think you should be a little older; but again: it's case by case.

As for Spencer's the one back home never carded that I saw, but then again I didn't buy sex toys there and being almost 30 I rarely get carded for anything anymore despite the fact that I don't look my age. I in fact barely look old enough to drink. I've been in actual "sex shops" who haven't carded me. *shrugs* If they don't want to follow the law, they can deal with the consequences.

The Spencer's here doesn't card, but I'm sure they are supposed to and probably do in a lot of places. I got my first vibrator at a Spencer's when I was 18, and I wasn't carded, though it would have been fine if I was. And they definitely don't care who goes into the back end of the store, though they probably should. I see kids back there half the time. This is probably a special case where the people working at this particular store just don't give a crap or can't be bothered to do what they're supposed to.

I agree. Just deal with it. I think alcohol is much more dangerous than weed, but our government thinks differently, so I deal with it.

Then by your rationale there exist people who should have a higher limit, and I think that we all accept that in the ideal world things such as this would be controlled by individual maturity, but we can't easily do that, so we fall back to age limits in the law. If you think it should be changed then come up with a good argument and start writing your representatives - but don't expect anything big. There are too many people who would be unhappy with this and not enough people who would be ecstatic to make it worth the risk for most politicians.

It's illegal for them not to check ID's at the store as far as I know. Here, they stop you at the front door and ask for ID. There's no just walking in "oh I'm 18 no worries." You have to show ID. My best friend is 37 and they still ID her.

This is how I feel:

It shouldn't be based on age. Any of it. Period. Some individuals are adult enough before hitting eighteen to deal with such things. Some are not. Do not penalize the ones who are for the ones who are not. It's generalization, which is never a good thing.

So all of your choices are not how I feel, if that helps.

I'm curious as to why you would include "I don't want to answer because I'm under 18" as a choice when this website clearly states on the bottom of every page,

"This website is intended solely for viewing and purchasing by an adult audience. If you are under 18 years old (21 years old in some states) we ask you to leave this website. Please do."

While I'm not jumping to any conclusions, it's a bit off-putting that you would have that as a voting option.

You act young too. Since you are on Eden, do you honestly feel the need to go into a sex shop anyways ?

If you are 18 then you would get things mailed to you anonymously, unless you live at your parent's house (no offense lots of people do..) and aren't supposed to have them.

I feel like minors should not be allowed to buy sex toys due to their psychological parameters.

As a minor you are still maturing and developing, and it is not appropriate, in my opinion, for you to get involved in things that could affect you in negative ways.

Fun Fact: Gray matter is the "wise" part of the brain which grows as people get older. It is not fully developed until about age 23 for females and about age 25 for males.
