We are ecstatic to announce the most recent change in the Mentor/Student Program!
That's right, folks! Students can no longer request an upgrade while in a mentor's class AND we've bumped up the number of reviews required to go up for vote.
That sounds really nice, but it still doesn't solve the issues where students have been in our class for months and have one review done and drafts pending but have disappeared off the face of the earth. Or those issues where we could have graduated them if they just would have made changes to their second review but it's still in the submitted back to student status and has been that way for months because they've vanished.

We weren't attempting to solve that issue in this update. It's a known risk that some students will flake out on classes, and people have things come up in life that pull them away. Many of whom eventually return to the site hoping their mentors haven't canceled their classes.
Wonderful!!! I had 3 students do this to me--it really sucks after your work hard with them and then they just go ahead and upgrade. You are not only out the time you spent, but the GC as well.
You guys rock!!! This is one of the major issues mentors have had and I am sooo glad you were able to fix this!!

Oh wow! This is great news. I think this is a change everyone will be happy about.

If they have at least 2 reviews with you, whether they get published or not, you can still fail them.

I hate failing someone. I'd like to believe that they just got busy with life. Hell, reviewing sex toys is not everyone's top priority. Kids, school, family, sickness, moving, surgery, ...damn, even just taking a break is by me.
The question for me is, how long do you give them before you fail them?

I wait about a month if a student hasn't submitted any reviews, and hasn't been in touch. Then, I cancel the class.
If the student has reviews needing to be edited by them -- then... I'll give it 2 or 3 months. I wait longer in these cases because I know that once I drop the student, the only way for them to get their reviews published is to join another class.

I have no problems maintaining a student for several months regardless of the reason. However, if there is no contact from them after repeated attempts by me (I usually send multiple PMs and post on their wall), I also have no problem failing them in that situation. When I accept a student, one of the things I ask is that they keep me up to date on their status. I have 3-4 students that I haven't heard from in months but I have maintained them because I thought they had potential and it wasn't the scenario of someone enrolling and disappearing.
