Flags

Contributor: El-Jaro El-Jaro
I wanted to take this time to help people learn more about flagging.

When a post is flagged, I get a notification that lets me know something is up and to check it out. In the message I get, I see the reason the message was flagged, the comments by the flagging person, who posted the comment, the comment itself, and a link to the forum thread. After reading the above info, I send an email to the flagger, letting them know it's being checked into.

After I get the basic information, I check out the thread as a whole. If I find things getting way out of hand, I'll close the thread so further flare ups don't happen and to give people a chance to cool down. The rest of the process is handled on a case-by-case situation, so would be too long winded and varied to put in this post. Flagging is taken very serious and merits individual attention.

Flags are just a way of notifying the Admin (me) that something is up. If a message is flagged by one person, rest assured it's being checked into. There's really no need for further flagging, especially if something is posted on the thread in question. If you want to address the issue further with the admin, don't hesitate to send an email to moderator@edenfantasys .com .

I hope that clears a few things up for you!

Have a great weekend!

I think we should also remind people that flagging is, indeed, a serious action.

"If it is determined that the flagged member has indeed conducted themselves poorly, they will be contacted and issued a warning. If it is determined that the flagging was retaliatory and/or unsupported, the flagging member will be issued a warning. Three warnings will result in a 1-month suspension from the EdenFantasys community. Two suspensions will result in permanent banning from the community. However, there are some actions that may result in immediate suspension or banning; such as defamation, bullying, threatening, and plagiarism. These will be decided based on the severity of the action, on a case by case basis. "

A contributor can be banned for repeated flags so please, be aware of that before you click the little buttons. Are the things we find insulting worth a possible suspension or banning? Think about it from both sides of the coin and how you would feel if you were being flagged, make sure it really IS a major offense, not a minor insult or disagreement.

I have issued warnings for both appropriate flags and for unwarranted flagging. It is very important that people can post their opinions without fear of bullying or harassment. From the CoC, there are certain topics that are absolutely not ok to post. You can read them here.

You're welcome!

Also, be aware that when a Abuse Report (flag) is submitted, Fred (the Owner) is notified as well. Fred takes a keen interest in the forums and flagged posts and takes them seriously.

Thanks for the reminder, but maybe people need to be reminded more. Today my legitimate post on this thread was flagged as offensive. I noticed that several other posts on that thread were also flagged for no apparent reason.

I went through and read that thread too, and that was ridiculously riddled with unnecessary flags.

The person doing the flagging has been officially warned that abuse of the flagging system won't be tolerated. We are taking the proper measures to prevent this but, please, bear in mind that it takes time.

Heck, I got flagged the other day for reprimanding a poster - which is part of my job!

Good info. I've only flagged one time and I found that I got a very quick response and had my problem taken care of. I definitely hope people are abusing the system!
