Reviews new look

Contributor: Bulma Bulma
I must say I was more than a little shocked when I went to check the comment on my most recent review. The new format will definitely take some getting used to.

Honestly, it feels a little strange. It doesn't look as sleek and professional to me, but that's just me. Don't get me wrong, there are some really helpful parts to it; like being able to go directly to a different review. For me though, it doesn't really feel like it belongs with the rest of the style of the site.

What does everyone else think? I am curious if I am the only one who liked the old way better.

You know, I liked the old way, but I like how this layout highlights (rather than sidelines) the blurb-type information. I also like how other votes on the review are obscured initially, so that voters need to click to see what others voters thought.

There's something that needs tweaking, though--when I mouse over the "vroom" level it gives the "bee" explanation. I really appreciate those guides, so I hope that that comes back soon.

I agree with Bulma and Bookworm. I think I'm more fond of the old layout. Maybe just because it was familiar. There's definitely more on the page (direct links to other reviews, a visual representation of review usefulness that comes before the review) but with the old style I felt everything was at-a-glance. The new style I feel I have to scroll around more to get the full view of the page. Maybe it's 'cause the text and picture are bigger? I think it'd be nice to have it slightly more columnized. I think that's really what I liked about the old layout. The author widget is nice but I like the tall version rather than the long version.

But maybe it just takes getting used to.

I think it's big and bulky looking. I am definitly going to have to get used to this! It just seems too "in your face". I too prefer the old style and I also noticed the vroom/bee bug. It's just too imposing for me!

I have to agree about it being columnized. That would make it feel a little more in tune with everything else on the site. I do feel that with the new way it is harder to keep track of which line I am reading because I have to scan further. It seems to strain my eyes more actually, (even though I really don't think that it should)

I too noticed the vroom/bee bug, just not until after I posted.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who was a little shocked by the change. I am trying to like it though, I too think that the old way may have just been what I was used to so it was familiar for me.

Hate the be the naysayer but this really is awful. I like that there are more pictures and price shown but that could have been done similarly with the old layout, could it not?

The page looks very sloppy and it's not very intuitive at all. Plus, the lack of formatting for our reviews makes them hard to read.

I'm also of the opinion that it really very disjointed and not entirely related to the rest of the site.

The scrolling is also an issue - there's too much crucial information below the fold and I'm at a pretty large resolution - I imagine someone on 800 x 600 would just about not be able to use this.

Sorry. =\

How to make it better?
1. Go back to the old way please

Its better to have the avatars, name links, smaller font, and less "centered"

Thanks for your thoughts! Other areas of the site are actually slotted for re-design too, so by the end of the process it should all match again...
I think there are definitely some bugs to be worked out, and we obviously want to have these pages as readable as possible for you! So don't hold back. =)

The only thing that "bugs" me is that it feels too large overall, it takes up most of my computer screen, if the entire reviews could be shrunk down including headers it would definitely improve how they look to me. Also, the fact paragraphs aren't spaced make it so hard to read reviews now.

I want to add that I do like it more than the previous style. It just needs a little tweaking. I've been used to the other style for some long that the change will take some getting used to. I especially like that there are links with pictures to other reviews of the same toy off to the side.

WOW! What a response. Def. have to do some adjustments. However, nothing major is planned for this page. Major changes ahead for the other pages.

I know that I mentioned this earlier, but I've read two reviews since the layout change where the vroom/bee levels don't match what the reviewers describe in their reviews, and I can't help but suspect that fixing the vroom mouse-over descriptions would help tremendously!

Yeah, I've noticed that it's still there as well. I also noticed that there is black text that reads "post" over the green post button that has white "post" on it. Kind of strange looking.

I do think I am beginning to get used to the new look more, although I still wish a lot of the info was kept at the right hand side instead of the left hand side. Something about reading left to right, and the links drawing a lot of my attention when I go to read the next line. I am really liking the links to other reviews of the same product; very handy when shopping!

Question: are 0 star reviews showing up as 0 stars? Because link
looks like a five star review when it should (?) be 0.

I've always felt that the font was too big on the reviews. Just one size too big. I think that's why it feels so bulky to people. I like the new design, especially since the paragraph spacing was fixed.
