I can see that happening. Good to know the history.

And I know a ton of people have said it but negative reviews are usually the best.

I certainly don't down-vote negative reviews just because they're negative; it's just that quite a few of them don't contain the level of information I'm looking for. I've seen a lot of reviews that pretty much said, "Well, I didn't like it," and offered no helpful elaboration.

I always look at the profiles of the people writing the reviews. I think reading a review good or bad by a person that is more like me, or has the same interests is more valuable than just judging the review. Bad reviews are important, and more helpful than anything. Sometimes when people absolutely love a product they tend to leave little things that aren't that great out, but those little things may be important to someone else. Bad reviews are important to have, as long as they aren't just ripping the product apart.

A negative review can be very useful to me and as long as it contains all the information that I look for in a review then I rate it as what it is either extremely useful or useful.

Agreed heck sometimes I buy a vibe simply because the reviewer said it was to fast or powerful for them...it's very useful to me to have the vibrations described because I have a certain type that rips my trigger almost instantly.

I have noticed this too lately. Shame really. As long as the specs are there, it shouldn't be rated so low.

I have noticed this a lot lately as well. I actually like the shorter reviews, as long as it includes not just the specs but how well it did or didn't work and WHY. Unless the longer reviews are funny, I tend to get bored and my ADD kicks in. I have written some very long reviews and thought, "wow, if I was reading this I would get bored", but it was usually something with a lot of functions, and I couldn't figure out how to shorten it. I have noticed a few of my shorter reviews got less useful votes, but I felt I said ALL I could in those reviews. This isn't really fair, but there isn't much you can do. There are SO many reviews now and reviewers that it is becoming harder to stand out and please everyone. I feel every one should at least get a useful if all the specs are there and it was made very clear how well something worked or didn't work and WHY. If I can read something and not have any questions about the toy at all after that, I give an Extremely Useful. Also, it is MUCH easier to write about something you LOVE over something you didn't enjoy.

The only time I vote anything as not being useful is if I feel that serious information was missing from the review (is it safe to use anally?) or if there was misinformation (it's fine to use silicone lubes with this because it's a silicone toy.)

Personally, I find negative reviews to be way more helpful than positive reviews, because critical reviews warn me about what I won't like in a toy, or what will go wrong if I have it, rather than telling me all the great stuff I like to find out on my own.

I don't mind if a review is shorter, as long as all the necessary info is there.

I prefer to see both types of reviews - positive and negative. I would prefer if reviewers did a very thorough job and provide details to support their opinions. Just as important is how well the review is written. If I see a positive review that starts off:

This is a good penis strecer becus it looks good and I like it alot to . . .

I'll usually stop reading further and look at other reviews on the same product - as long as others are available.

Likewise, if someone writes a short negative review that is well-written and describes the problem, I will consider what has been said. Overall, I prefer longer reviews (just because they can be more fun to read) and also like those that add a touch of humor.

I agree about the really poorly written reviews. (And I always wonder who votes these people into Advanced Reviewer?) One of my pet peeves are things like, "this toy will mak u cum like crazey!!!! its a gud toy and evevybdy shud get 1. my bf fcked me w/ thzz toy and i cumed n cumed n u wil 2." These cause me to rend my garments in distress.

I either just click away from the review or, if they are up for Advanced Reviewer try to make some constructive criticism and then usually, if I rate them, don't give a really good rating.

There's a spell check on Firefox AND Explorer. It isn't that hard. Also, one person doesn't know what will make ME "cum like crazy." With the exception of something like a powerful A/C toy (and even that isn't a guarantee for everybody) what works for one person certainly doesn't work for an other. Saying it works for them, briefly is fine, but assuming that one toy will do for everyone what it did for the writer isn't a sound way to write a review. Also, when someone rates a plastic pocket rocket or a jelly dil a 5 on the Vroom scale. No, just no!

Actually, if a toy isn't an "anal" toy and the person didn't use it anally I can't see why they would have to include that it was safe or unsafe for anal. Can they? Sure, but I don't see that as being mandatory.

Same goes for silicone - I use silicone lube with most of my silicone toys and it's actually fine. *shrug* I still include the warning but it's not a "bad" thing to say that it's okay if you've used it and it... was.

Lol.

I think I've seen 100 reviews like that out of a million in the three years I've been here.

You guys must be reading all the ones I skip over or something.

Personally, I think a negative review can be much more useful than a positive review! I love to hear what people didn't like about an item, because it's easier for me to judge whether those are things that would bother me if I owned it. For positive reviews, there can be much more of a difference in experiences, I feel like.

I usually set my standard at "Useful" if a review gives me most of the information I'm looking for (material, experience, packaging, noise, size, etc.) and "extremely useful" if I feel a reviewer gave details that made me feel like I had been in the room to see the object itself. Short reviews are okay, but I find that some of them just don't give a lot of information. Sometimes when an item doesn't work for a reviewer, that's all they say and we don't get to hear much about what would improve the item, what other uses it might have, or even if another size would have worked better (in the case of lingerie) or if the item is just made strangely.

Actually, I have received quite the opposite feedback from my negative review. A lot of people commented that they were sad it didn't work out for me, but enjoyed the review. And I know I'm not that good of a reviewer for it to be based solely on that. I think the community is just really supportive.
