Bad reactions to Maximus lube...

Contributor: Pixel Pixel
I was wondering if anyone else has had reactions while using Maximus lube for anal play? I had tried it a few months ago while fingering a male partner, and he had an allergic reaction to it. Thinking it was a 'him only' issue, I tried it as well(anally and vaginally), and had the same reaction. Earlier this week, I tried it with another male partner (using a different bottle of lube, a new purchase) and he had the exact same burning, itching, and swelling. That is too many reactions for me to be comfortable ever using this lube again.

Anyone else have a bad experience with this lube?

I personally haven't used it, but I have definitely noticed one thing among the people I know who have and from reviews and comments and discussions on this site.

Basically, if it works for them, they absolutely love it. But some people, and perhaps even a significant portion of people, have pretty severe and at the very least uncomfortable reactions to some of its ingredients that tend to include the burning, itching swelling type list of symptoms you describe.. I believe it has some pretty strong chemicals in it, and it lists several parabens in its ingredient list on the site. A lot of people have problems with that type of ingredient and can have allergic reactions.

If you have multiple partners or think you might be unsure about how future partners will react, it might be a good idea to experiment with some of the hypoallergenic lubes available that are pretty certain to not cause any type of reaction like this. You may find that some of these won't "perform" as well, but at least they won't cause anyone extra pain and discomfort!

my wife gets some weird reaction if used vaginally, no problems if anally. She gets some sort of irritation..

I tried it once and didn't like how it felt 'gritty' to me in my vag, but i never had a severe reaction, per say.

We have used Maximus before, with NO issues. However, we HAVE had anal and vaginal burning from OTHER lubes, but noticed they were "older". We will now TOSS OUT any lube that is getting more then a few months old. Not worth the risk. In fact, we noticed SOME lube gets a chemical smell...like alcohol, when they get old. That is a MAJOR warning sign now, for us.

Chemical sensitivity happens in some people - personally I have a hard time finding a lube I can use. Maximus has parabens, which are a known trigger for some, so look for a paraben-free lube for your next try.

A couple of years ago I e-mailed Maximus asking if they would carry a paraben-free lube. They said they were working on it, but nothing since, so I don't think they care.

Yeah, I'm thinking that it was a reaction to the parabens. Booo. I was hoping that this lube would work for them, as I really didn't want to have to share my Sliquid Booty with other people! lol.

Alan had a reaction to it too when we tried it. Luckily we always start by doing a skin patch test before using a new lube, but his turned bright red and burned really bad. We think it might be either the Di Sodium EDTA or the Phenoxyethanol bothering him since a couple of other lubes he has reactions to share that same ingredients.

That's what I use. It's a little stringy, which takes getting used to, but it doesn't cause any odd reactions at all for me, and I've had problems with many lubes.

I suggest a test on the "potentially affected locations" as well, but at a time where there's a long break before you're going to have sexual activity.

It burns for sure...I wish I had read the reviews a bit closer, as this seems to be common.

Swear by the stuff and no problems here.

I've heard similar stories. I've avoided the stuff despite positive reviews because I have really sensitive skin. That's about all I can go off of. No way I'm dropping $15 or $19 or whatever to find out!

No problems with Maximus and I've used probe silky light, which is wonderful overall for sex or anal use. Just ordered the thick n rich, so not sure yet, but I'd imagine it's similar but thicker.
