Blood

Contributor: White Wolf White Wolf
Okay, a little concerned.

Ive been doing anal play for a while now, and ive never before seen blood afterwards.

Today didnt go exactly well, in my eagerness it kinda hurt, but During the actual play i had no blood on my toys or anything. After going to the bathroom a few minutes ago i noticed a small amount of blood on the toilet paper.

Should i be overly concerned? if i wait a couple weeks will it heal? Should i see a doctor?

It is quite common to get small anal fissures as a result of trying to force an object without adequate lubrication, or simply from attempting to insert an object that is simply to large for your anal opening. From what I've read, they're not a major concern, but if a fissure is what you're experiencing, you should definitely take a break from anal for at least a couple weeks to let it heal.

I second that.
I've never experienced any bleeding. But I find I need to totally relax with plenty of lube before any larger sized toy is going in.

I'd hold off and then take it really easy when you do use your ass again and see what happens.

I'd say you have nothing to worry about if it was only traces of blood. Just add more lube next time and make sure to warm up enough before playing.

I've had the same problem recently. The past few times we were maybe a little hasty with the insertion process and it hurt a little, but not so much that we couldn't continue with the play. The past few times, though (with breaks of a couple of weeks between play sessions) there's been some blood after he pulls out, most notably the most recent time when there was maybe half a teaspoon of it. It freaked us both out, and I wasn't expecting it at all because I'd felt only the slightest twinges of pain upon entry and everything else felt great.

We use lots of lube and realize that we should definitely try a bit more foreplay (and I've since bought Intimate Organics' Anal Relaxing Spray to try next time), but I'm worried that the damage has already been done since lately I'm way more prone to bleeding than in the past. Ugh. Will taking a break of a few weeks be enough? Is there anything else I can try? I heard that hot baths can help, but the frequency was supposed to be at least twice a day, which is a bit much for my schedule.

i think it is ok if only a small amount of blood. take it really easy next time use lots of lube relax, and try something small and work your way up.

I posted about this a while ago. Three weeks ago, -cough- as my no-vaginal-sex countdown is officially over tomorrow.

I was really worried, but I can report that things are fine for me. I read that a lot of the rubbing back and forth can stir up hemorrhoids. And everyone HAS hemorrhoids, they're veins back there- but people usually only have issues enough to call them hemorrhoids when they've been irritated.

If it is a small fissure, or if it is a stirred up hemorrhoid, I'd suggest the same things.
Lay off the anal play for a few days or weeks, depending on how sore you are or how much blood you have. And really actually watch what you eat- if you tend to be constipated, drink more water and eat more roughage (apples, salads, etc).
I have had quite a mean history with constipation, so I just pick up a bottle of colace or stool softener and take them when I'm having a bad bout and I'm eating fine and drinking enough water otherwise.

It's good practice, too, because you don't want irritation back there! Make sure you're relaxed, like others have said. Use lots of lube. But give it a little break.

If the bleeding is really heavy, see a doctor immediately.
If you continue to bleed every day, every bowel movement, then I'd also schedule an appt with your doctor because you might have other problems going on.

Ty for all of the advice. as time went on the bleeding got less and less and after about 5 days its completely gone now.

Its just a weekly ritual for me, and before i did this i didnt do it for a month. So i was a little too ... enthusiastic?

My guess is yes, you were probably a little too enthusiastic. I would just tone it down a bit and take your time.

It's quite common to have blood from the intestines even what would be considered quite a lot of blood. Now gushing blood or sticky, black blood can be an issue. The intestines can bleed from bowel movements quite naturally and with no cause for alarm.

If, however, you are worried see your Doctor. He/she can run some simple tests to rule out tears, cancer or other nasty problems. It's probably nothing but then again one can't be too careful with health, right?

I never dabbled in anal play, but I did notice blood once from my vagina after masturbating. It was from being too tight and too eager to play. I healed very quickly.

I've often wondered this and have many times been to eager and impatient and forced things when i shouldn't have. I've always taken a break, lets things heal up, slowly work back into things. Good to read over this discussion.

I see blood fairly frequently, but I have IBS-d and unfortunately, hemorrhoids that appeared about the same time. Chronic diarrhea aggravates the hell out of them, can cause them and anal play obviously isnt a big help. Yes, anal play can cause them too, but Ive practiced anal play since I was ten and have also been a runner and cyclist and had no significant problems until the IBS started up at age 40. If you are taking NSAIDS or aspirin the increase in bleeding can be dramatic, one study (whose subjects were double-dosing on Ibu) reported up to 200+ ml daily loss with 60-120cc not at all unusual. That's 1/4 cup on the low end! Visible blood was noted in as few as 3 days on that regimen, the study lasted 28 days.
