Introduction to Anal

Contributor: her.royal.redness her.royal.redness
My male partner has recently expressed some real interest in exploring anal play.

I'm incredibly unfamiliar with it (but incredibly turned out and excited at the prospect of talking more about, this, and potentially exploring it more together), and was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing some advice, both on how to proceed in a way that is comfortable and safe,, product recommendations that might aid/enhance the experience. We've spoken about getting something like the Njoy as something to play and explore with... Good idea? Bad idea? Alternatives?

Thanks everyone.

It depends on who will be using it for the njoy. It's a great product, but for a partner to use it, it can sometimes get a little uncomfortable because you don't understand how far or where the head of it is. I'd recommend you probably start out with a toy that isn't so well, metal first off. But the njoy is definitely a great second toy.

I recommend any of the starter plugs on here. They're small, not scary, and are pleasurable to an anal beginner.

As for advice? Use lots of lube. Make sure he's thoroughly aroused before you attempt it. Calm him down because it will be ten-times more painful if he's nervous about it. Slowly ease your fingers in first (if you're kinda squicky about that, put a condom on your fingers). Go in a little bit then let him tell you if he's ready for more. After he's receptive to two fingers at a time, then it's time for the toy.

After he's used the toy in multiple sessions, you're probably ready to upgrade to a better toy. I hope that helps.

I wouldn't say ten times more painful if you're nervous. If you're nervous (tight) and force things it will be infinitely more painful because anal play shouldn't hurt at all! The only exception to this might be a bit of stretching if you're playing with really big things (think fist-sized), but for things under about 2" if it hurts you're doing it wrong or moving too fast.

Fingers are a great start (with plenty of lube, and do consider gloves to smooth out your hands and keep things clean).

time for a "tooting my own horn warning"

They're not some of my best pieces, but I do have two articles on Bottomtalk about starting out with anal play - see them link and link
