High End Toys or the "old standbys". What is your preference and why?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
We have a LOT of adult toys. Until recently, an eighty dollar vibrator was very HIGH, HIGH end. Now you can spend many hundreds on a single toy.

While we love some of our higher end toys, we find we still rank some of the basic, under hundred dollar toys (like the IVibe Rabbit) as our favorites.

Even some twenty dollar toys are on our "must go to" list. Thus, do you think it is better to have a FEW very ultra expensive toys, or lots of far less expensive toys, or a mix, or does it matter?

Do you find the COST of some toys "out of reach", even if you want them, now days?

as long as they do what they are designed to do, I dont care what they cost.

I think there's gems at every price point. I think treating yourself to something fancy once in a while is really nice. And I think there are a lot of less expensive toys that are very fun to play with & will last a long time.

I own lots of high end toys, and lots of inexpensive ones. Some of the expensive oens didn't work for me at all, and some of the cheap ones are great. My regular rotation is mainly made up of more expensive, rechargeable toys since I don't like dealing with batteries.

Cost doesn't really come into it for me, I mean i won't be paying 5 grand for a toy but if I really want it and it's not going to cost me the earth then I'll buy it. I'm not saying I have tons of money because I don't, it just means that I work toward what I really want and don't let the cost of things get in my way.

I'm not picky, as long as it's what i want, then I'll get it. I'm always up to try new things.

I'm an expensive toy snob!
Honestly, I look at my cheap clit vibes and simple vibes now like they are pathetic. I just don't have much interest in them.
Give me a high end toy like a Lelo and I'm as happy as a pig in mud!
High end just works best for me.

I love the high end toys whenever I'm able to get them.

So far, it's not a bad strategy.

I wish I could afford high end toys...but I have actually found some cheaper toys that are really great, like link

I buy both high end and cheaper toys. Usually what i do is if I'm curious about a type of toy I will buy an inexpensive one to see if I like the general concept and if I do I buy a luxury version of it that I believe is going to last for awhile.

Price is a secondary consideration - but the toys we buy are trending toward the high end.

We love both. My wife still loves her basic silver bullet.

Very much depends on the item.

Lingerie: runs the gamut.
Vibrators: $20 gets me off just as well (if not better) than $200, tried and true.
Anything for my ass requires medical-grade silicone, so those are usually slightly higher priced, and
Strap-on harnesses: forget it. The sky is the limit on those (and well worth investing in, I might add!).

I buy and use high end toys, almost exclusively, but when it comes to glass dildos I tend to buy much cheaper.

I like well-made things that work well. When those things are expensive, so be it. When they're cheap, that's awesome!

I avoid the cheaper items made out of materials that don't work for me, though. If you paid me to take a jelly vibrator, I'd still slip it back in your pocket before you snuck away.

I really don't mind the price. All I care about is if they work properly and the materials they are made out of.

my favorite vibes are the under $10 pocket bullet vibes with attached battery pack. powerful, cheap, and last me as long as i need them to. i keep backups for the times when they break. i've had some last only 6 months and one about 3 years.

Before committing to building a reputation (and a point-stash) at Eden I did most of my toy-shopping by looking for bargains and trolling a national auction site. I was able to get things at a price comparable to what you have here on Eden (as opposed to ridiculously overpriced) but for every pearl I had to slog through heaps of smell-jelly mud. I even had a blog dedicated to posting links of those gems that I thought were worth the money.

I've overpaid only twice. Once because I was getting a vibe for my sister's 18th b-day and it was too late for on-line shopping. My sister refused the present (as I expected) and it more than paid for itself in orgasms. If I'd seen it on-line I wouldn't have paid any attention to it. It was the most basic, non-intimidating toy ever. So in the end I won. The second occasion was when I was so psyched about the Butterfly Kiss (truly deserved, 'sides it says TPR on the box not jelly) that I bought it from the only store that had it in stock instead of waiting for it to appear somewhere else.

I only have one toy from the high price range (around $100). Unfortunately while it's flawlessly made, beautiful, comfortable and all that jazz but it's not for me. My only consolation is that I won it for $50 and it's disinfectable so I'll be able to share it with a girl who'll like it more (if I ever get the courage to leave this room and find a partner!).

Price isn't really important. I like to have a mix of high end and medium priced toys. My cheapest toy is a $30, and my most expensive is $115. I just buy what looks nice.

I really covet my high end toys but I always have my less expensive toys on stand by.

I really like rechargable vibes but sometimes the vibratons can be too mild if I am trying to reach orgasm quickly for my eager partner, so I reach for my trusty 10$ vibe that is noisy like hell but is also pretty strong.

Not having a lot of disposable income, I'm generally stuck to looking at expensive toys from afar and sighing wistfully, and rarely do I indulge in one (end-of-the-year bonus, whoohoo!). I prefer to have fewer toys, though, as long as they're good. Instead of buying two twenty-five-dollar toys of dubios quality, I'd rather go with one fifty-dollar toy that I know is going to last and is not going to disappoint.

If a low end toy is safe and has good reviews, I see no point in getting a higher end one! But if the high end one is the only one with your features/preferred material/it's rechargeable/ect. then I say get what you want or you'll be unhappy. The thing I love about this site is the buy out options, coupons, and points which make everything so much more affordable! There was a $60 toy I wanted, but after my video review gift card, points, and buyout discount all I had to pay was $5! Thanks Eden for helping us poor college kids!

Ordered my wife one of the form6, but have yet to try it. That'll be her first high end toy, but she definitely has enjoyed others.

I love all my more expensive toys (especially the most expensive, a hand-blown glass dildo) but my go-to toy until recently has been a traditional style vibe I got as part of a free gift with an order I placed on a site years ago. It finally died after about 4 years. I've had more expensive toys die in less than half that time.

Hell yes, cheers to Eden. College life is not cheap. Shoot, at this point, any life is not cheap!

Wild Orchid, GREAT POST! I would have to agree with you on many things that you said.

Whatever satisfies, is safe, and makes you feel sexy is worth whatever bang for your buck. I do agree too that there are gems at every price level. At my level right now, I could not just pull out 100+ for a sex toy that may not satisfy me as much as a $30. It's whatever works best.

As for lingerie, I am not picky on price. I have found fabulous things for less than 20 (here at Eden!) and am totally infactuated with them. However, a wonderful more expensive (and COMFORTABLE) lingerie, corset, outfit sets the mood all right.

I have things in the price range from 10 to 150 bucks that I love, on the other hand I have the same price range of toys that I wish I'd never gotten. It all depends on the product itself. Thats why I love Eden, I can read the reviews of people that I interact with and get the heads up on stuff now, whereas before it was just hit and miss.

I usually go with toys from all spectrums, however ratings and reviews are my guide now days. Saves throwing away or re-making a high end toy into something useful.
