I used to think size is everything until I actually had sex with a couple of people and was able to compare.

The adult film industry has sold men on the gigantic penis theory, not reality, most men really don't spend a lot of time looking at other guy's "junk" so what they see on screen is what they think is good. If men payed more attention to what WOMEN thought they would get a much better feel for how to really please them. Technique is more important than size, and for most women an emotional connection is just as crucial to fulfillment . That is not to say carefree sex can't be good for women, but in my opinion, the emotional bond makes sex that much more pleasurable.

As a guy, some of it may be driven by locker room envy, or lore. I was much behind in maturing physically when I was in school. I recall being very anxious of being naked around all the other, more " developed " boys. So being bigger held some status, so to say. That may be part of the whole bigger is better thing. Of course now I know better, and as I have found out, you don't need to be the biggest hammer in the tool box, just the best. Truth be known, one of our favorite lovemaking positions involves us laying her on her back, and me on my side. I put myself in her and slowly push just the head of my penis and maybe a but more, probably less than 3 inches total into her. I slowly stroke in and out for as long as she needs. She has the most intense orgasms that way.
So the fantasy is more than the reality, truthfully, for us at least, anything more than 5 inches is wasted. For me though, I am still glad I have much more.....can't shake that locker room shame.

I have actually read something that there is more variation in the female vagina than a man's penis. I always take all such studies/comments with a grain of salt. I do know that a woman's arousal is also directly tied to some aspects of the vagina being able to stretch to accommodate penetration. This is due to some accordion folds in the vagina that can flatten out increasing the depth of the vagina during sex, if memory serves. With my ex if we hadn't had adequate foreplay before penetration I had to go slow and make sure not to fully penetrate so as not to smash into her cervix, as that took away from the pleasure she was enjoying.

But definitely agree with the sentiments that locker room envy & the internet seems to create the illusion that size matters. I keep finding that I'm more well endowed than I thought and this resulted in depth issues w/ my last partner and girth issues with my current partner.

At the end of the day emotional connection and good communication with your partner definitely are more important for great sex in my opinion than one's size.
