Aquarium in the bedroom? Pretty or distraction?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
We have a nice TV in our bedroom. Often put on "porn" as a turn on/background when making love. We have a couple large family room aquariums. I was debating mounting a nice wall size one in our bedroom. I have my aquariums silent enough for library use (NO active bubbles...only surface movement..with TONS of canister filtration. Perfect water chemistry for those aqua geeks out there, like me).

I think it would look cool. Wife thinks I will be thinking about the next cleaning, and how to improve the decor.

Does anyone else have a BEDROOM aquarium? Any opinion...should I put one in?

THANKS

Oooh I have no specific expertise here....but I think it sounds hella sexy. I think it would put off a really nice glow. Will you be distracted by it?

I don't have a preference either way. Probably less distracting than my birds can be

I think it would be awesome! I'd love to have an aquarium in our room, and cleaning it would be the farthest thing from my mind if we're having sex.

Sounds nice to have an aquarium in the bedroom. It shall produce a very tranquil effect to the room, especially if the background colors are in aqua tone.

Gotta think about the type of fish .. my parents had koi fish in a huge aquarium and you'd hear the koi splashing around every once in a while

My current hybrid Glo-FIsh tank has both LED "Moonlight" option or full blacklight! I would do same for bedroom tank. NO distraction..just cool mood lighting.

Ohhhh that would be so friggin' AWESOME!
If I had one it would have to have some small LED lights or lit aquarium ornaments (like my large tank had) so it gives a slight glow through the room.

I like aquariums in the bedroom. They are peaceful and serene to look at when you're headed to bed. It leaves that calm feeling that helps you get to sleep!

My lovely pufferfish are in my bedroom for now, although the boyfriend is getting me a larger aquarium for my birthday, which they will be moved into and into the living room so people can see them. The tank in the bedroom will be restocked though. I also have a little 5 gallon in the bedroom for cultivation of live foods. Yup, a fellow aqua geek here! I don't find it distracting at all unless the water level has dipped a little, but even then the sound of water is soothing. I much prefer it to having a tv in the bedroom.

Nooooo, lots of these are dyed, which is a painful process for the fishies and they fade. Be sure you get the real, truly colored glo-fish, please! No painted fish!

Depends on lighting and if you like darkness when you sleep in. We had to move our 75gal planted aquarium out of our room cause lights poping on in the morning drove me up the wall. I suppose if that wouldnt bother you its a great idea. I loved mine aside from the lights.

I have a 75 gallon fish and coral tank. My husband and I are reef keepers. We thought about installing an in wall display tank, but didn't do it because of the upkeep and I didn't want the carpet ruined from changing filtration.
It really annoys me when our thank is dirty so I would vote no. It would be a distraction.

Are you going to put fish in it?

I know my cats would LOVE for me to have a fish tank in the bedroom.
Humown, teh snaks is gawn. Git moar...and put some fur on to!

If no fish and you worry about cleaning, get an algae eater.

I love fish tanks I think they are calming. I wish I could have one in my apartment but we can't. I do however have my spiders in my room. They just hang out in their little containers.

I'd love to have a fish tank in the bedroom, my friend just got a saltwater tank and it got us to thinking. The best kind would be something incredibly difficult, maybe jellyfish.
