Bleeding after sex?

Contributor: Cherrylane Cherrylane
The past several times my boo and I have bumped uglies I've noticed that a day or two after (never immediately after) I'll have some light bleeding that can last up to 3-4 days. The first couple times anything like this happened, I'd rush to google for info on what it couple possibly be. Of course, google would always tell me I either had an STD or that it was implantation bleeding, aka I'm pregnant. Despite taking my birth control religiously every day and having never missed a pill EVER, as well as getting tested for stis every year with my partner, always being clean and having us both slept with no one else, the thought would still give me the willies and get all up in my head so I'd take multiple pregnancy tests and go to the doc to discuss the possibility of having an std. Naturally, every test, pregnancy and otherwise, is always negative. After spending enough money and mental/emotional anguish on that, I finally learned to stop googling.

The other thing that came up every so often was that birth control can make you more inclined to spot. However, I've been on this particular pill for over two years and only just started having this problem the past few months, sooo I'm fairly inclined to think that's probably not it.

The only thing that HAS changed is that I've lost maybe 15 pounds since summer, which was around 10% of my previous weight (a lot when you consider there isn't *that* much to lose). I thought that maybe this could have something to do with the spotting?

What do you guys think?

And for the poll, have you ever experienced this before or been with someone who has? Did you ever figure out what it was and stop it?

I can't say what your situation is, you'd have to see a GYN about it. My own bleeding was due to the fact that my partner at the time was a bit large for me and my vaginal capillaries were hypersensitive due to having not been (ab)used for over a decade.

I have very light bleeding after sex sometimes. Maybe like Chilipepper it's because my partner is large for me. I never worried about it much because I knew for a fact it wasn't an STD.

This happens to me sometimes. I take continuous BC, and it is more likely to happen at certain points in the 3 month cycle than other points. I talked to my GYN about it, and for me it was just an issue with some slight tearing, nothing serious. I understand the worrying though, wouldn't hurt to give your GYN a call about it, just to take the worry out for you.

I've had it happen, but like Chili, it's usually due to the type of sex I'm having or the size of person I'm having it with. Lack of lubrication can also make it easier to create small tissue tears. I also notice it more during certain times in my cycle, which I'm guessing is due to the blood vessels in the area being more sensitive. I also had it happen with one partner who was particularly long and used to bang the hell out of my poor cervix, but that's a very noticeable reason because it HURTS! Can't hurt to see an OB/GYN just in case!!!

Immediately after is fairly common and is a result of roughness or friction.

What you are describing, several days after, is something I've never heard of.

I don't know about several days after, but immediately after has happened to me before on occasions.

I just visited the doctor and they said I looked "pristine" and tested fine for everything. They basically just said it can be expected with the type of low-estrogen dose bc I'm on.

Still skeptical.... Oh well.

I've had spotting after sex once in a great while.

It can be from either a "full" uterus (meaning you are close to your period, or your body is holding a lot of endometrium and blood for some reason) or a benign lesion on the cervix could cause the bleeding. (This is NOT necessarily an STD.)

Mine usually lasts only a few hours and is probably a "full" uterus or a small lesion on the cervix. The inside of the vagina is very vascular and bleeding, as long as it isn't long lasting or has other symptoms (cramping, fever, strong odor, tissue other than blood) are not present.

I would see a GYN within a few weeks or so and see what he says, though.

Like a lot of the others, just some occasionally light bleeding after sex due to size and/or too much friction-not enough lube.

As far as your situation, I have no real ideas, but even though the doc wasn't worried, I'd check in with doc again in a while if it keeps up. It just seems odd for something like that to start suddenly and be sex-related and then say "Oh, it's spotting from the pill." Just keep on top of it. You know best when something's not right.

It's only happened to me once. I hadn't been having sex regularly and after a particularly hot romp I had a little blood the next day. My doctor said I was fine and that it was probably just because my vagina hadn't been so active in a while, haha.
If I were you I think I'd be running to a doctor.
