Is it more acceptable for women to own dildos/vibrators than men?

Contributor: Rainbow Boy Rainbow Boy
I'm curious to know if people find that it is socially more acceptable and understandable for a woman to own dildos and/or vibrators than a man. I know that since this is a sex-positive community the majority will find it acceptable for both men and women to own sex toys (this excludes masturbators like Fleshlights; I only mean penetrative toys). I believe that generally in our society it is viewed as inappropriate and unacceptable for a man to own a dildo. If a woman is caught in possession of such a sex toy, it really isn't a big deal. I think the case differs for a man. What does everyone else think?

I should clarify that I'm asking how you believe society in general perceives this.

I personally think it is the same for men and woman to own sex toys.

Maybe it is just me but I know that most guys probably don't have a dildo or vibrator. Unless you consider buying for a spouse.

However, I have one myself but still think society is more open for a woman to own one.

I do not own a dildo or a vib. My wife has many. I find it more acceptable for a woman to own then a man. They are toys made for a woman after all.

I would think society would feel it is more acceptable for a woman to use vibrators and dildos. A lot of society doesn't even seem open to men engaging in anal sex of any kind, so I doubt they would find any man using anything anally to be acceptable and a "straight" activity. I am sure some people don't even consider that vibrators can be used on the outside of the body, too. I personally find both men and women using them acceptable.

Personal I think it is equally acceptably but voted it more acceptable for women because due towards various biases and prejudices in our society I do think society considers it more acceptable for women.

Personally, I think it is equally acceptable, but having been to many sex toy parties, it is obvious to me that most people/society in general do not find this acceptable for men. Out of the six toy parties that I have been to, only one of them was of mixed genders.

Personally, I think it is equally acceptable.

However since you were asking about society, I voted it is more acceptable for women to have them.

Isn't the whole world supposed to be 'equal' - why would one be better of different than the other?

I think it should be fair, however, I agree that in society it is definitely less acceptable for men. I think b/c men's toys look a little different- not so cute- fleshlights are kind of creepy.

There is definitely a stigma about men enjoying anal play so yes, it's definitely less accepted by society that men might own any penetrative toys.

This is what I generally suspected. I know that most of you rightly think that it should be fair—that it's equally acceptable for both sexes to own and use penetrative toys. However, it seems that our society does not share the same belief as a whole. Typically, it would be shocking to find out a man owns a dildo but not a woman.

I think society views it as a more feminine thing, to the point that many men avoid penetration play because of this stigma.

I think that society in general thinks it is more acceptable for a female to own a dildo/vibrator and for a male to own some type of sleeve or fleshlight. I however think it is acceptable for anyone to own dildos and vibrators.

As a man, I can tell you that there's no contest. Men give you shit if they know, and most women freak out.

I agree with Waterfall and Sthr, unfortunately it is more acceptable for women to have vibrators and dildos than men and it shouldn't be. For some reason a lot of people think that if a man likes being penetrated he must be gay or bi in some way, which is ridiculous. I say dildos and vibrators for all consenting adults YAY!

i voted more acceptable for a woman.

but that's because i'm looking at that at a view from what most people would thing.

i, myself, think it's okay for both genders to own vibrators/toys. guys with toys really shouldn't get shit from whoever happens to find out about their stuff. :/ it doesn't make them gay, it just means they're more exploring than others. =]

I think it should be equal. I don't think any less of guys who own vibrators. Everyone is entitled to pleasure!

I voted how I personally feel. I don't care what society thinks!

Personally, I definitely think there's nothing weird about men owning vibrators, but there's definitely a social prejudice against men having sex toys. Which makes it a little weird that so much packaging on "women's toys" has naked ladies, when you think about it...

I think socially, people in general would feel it is unacceptable, but personally, I wouldn't bat a lash if I met a guy with toys.

I do think that most think that it's more acceptable for women to own toys, and possibly even expected for women to own toys. However, couples own toys, we have a bunch and are expanding all of the time. He is actually starting to look at items now specifically for him. It's more acceptable now, in society, for sex toys to be owned and talked about than they used to be. People experiment more now, people let loose more now. Sex lives are so much more enhanced now.

I answered before i read that last sentence...
Society thinks women should have them way more than men.
However, they do make toys for both sexes. To me - whatever floats your boat and makes you happy, then by all means!

I was just talking about this with a partner two nights ago. I think it is definitely considered more socially acceptable for girls to have toys, which is weird considering that it's more socially acceptable for guys to be openly sexual. I think people consider it sexy to think about a girl being so horny that she's doing herself in her bedroom, whereas if a guy's doing it, it means he isn't getting laid. Although strangely, it seems more acceptable for guys to talk about jacking off.

I don't understand it.
