Tattoos. How many YOUNGER PEOPLE here would NEVER, EVER get one? A different kind of question.

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
Tattoos have become VERY common. Far more young people, it seems, then older ones, that still "shake their heads" and "don't get it".

I see tattoos in groups of people where just five or ten years ago, you NEVER would have seen them (tattoo's in places that the owners KNOW they will show). This includes medical students, teachers...etc.

SO, I am actually asking for YOUNGER PEOPLE here...and I will let YOU decide if that includes you, to explain why YOU would "never, ever" get a tattoo and WHY you would not.

Feel free to list your age if you wish, it may add some insight too.

Let's see how the un-tattoo'd folks feel about all this.

Haha, I think of myself as being younger, but you might not...

I would never get a tattoo. I don't like to see them and I don't want one.

Yeah, how young are we talking about? We're all young at heart, but if you consider 30 young then I haven't gotten a tattoo for one reason and one reason only I HATE needles! I have numerous friends that have them and they've told me getting one doesn't hurt that bad, but the pains not the issue it's the needle. I have a very, very high pain tolerance, but I have a phobia of needles.

I just don't see why it matters. It doesn't effect anyone but the person who gets it. So why do people care. It is the same thing for me like gay marriage; it doesn't effect anyone else so who cares. Let people do what they want as long as no one gets hurt. That is just how I feel, I don't understand why people make a big deal out of everything, even beards. My boyfriend who is very clean looking, dresses nice, etc said he has to shave his beard because he thinks people judge him for the worse. I just dont understand, it's a beard--and not even an obnoxious one.

I will never understand what gives other people the right to judge other people is what I am saying. Id never do that to someone else, so please extend the curiosity to me.

Not sure if I'm young enough for this discussion But the tattoo craze started when I was in my early 20's (I'm a gen-X'er) and many of my friends are covered in them. I think they are more accepted now than they used to be and have even become quite trendy. My aunt got one when she turned 50. I have never had a desire to get one. I'm covered in freckles and I've always said god saw to it to "sleeve" me naturally. But I think they can be meaningful and sometimes even beautiful with the right artist.

I'm 21.. I would never get a tattoo because I'd feel like I was junking up my body or something. I dunno why I feel that way, because I love tattoos on other people... I just can't see them on me.

Well, I'm 23 and I wanted to answer this question anyway but it's a bit odd for me to answer...because...

I have 3 and plan to get many more!

BUT...

There are certain places I would never, ever allow something permanent to show on my body! NOT EVER! I run a medical practice. This means I am always in the spotlight and my every move is noticed by the patients. Many of the patients who walk through the door are older (we are talking, in their 80s and up) although many are also young. The older patients are actually sometimes very accepting of such things and even have their own set of ink and jewelry. But, many do not. In that type of setting, having a visible tattoo could be the cost of having a patient or NOT having one.

The 3 I have are all concealed by shoes and clothes, and any in the future will be the same.

I'd love a wrist tattoo, but I'd rather keep a job than have something I think of as cute get in the way of said job. I prefer eating and money allows me to eat.

That being said, I also have a cousin who would never tattoo herself, because she finds them "repulsive" on most people, and although some are cute (she loves mine) she wouldn't want to get one and look "absurd"

I'm 20 and not interested in getting a tattoo. I had thought about it in the past (17-18) but after thinking about all the different implications it has (difficulty getting a job, possible infection, peoples' perceptions, and its there FOREVER) I think it's a silly thing to do. For this reason I am also uninterested in getting gauges, even though I think they look good on some people.
Its like a permanent accessory. People change, their styles change, and permanent markings of phases in their lives can hurt them in the long run.

I would not mind getting one. But I do not have much fat on my body, so it would hurt. And I am allergic to pain. So I probably never get one. I tried to talk my wife into getting one, but her doctor told her the same thing.

I'm a younger person as well and I'm fairly interested in getting tattooed! I've had a design in mind since I was fourteen but I've yet to take the leap. I'm going to wait a while longer to mull it over but it's something I'm interested in. There are few things I'd say never to.
