Sex was a taboo subject in my house growing up. Wasn't told about sex, let alone sex toys.

I grew up in a condominium complex full of kids of all ages, so information quickly trickled down through us all. Like, I don't remember ever -not- knowing what sex was. I found out when I was four or five? Maybe earlier?
As for sex toys, I think I was eight or so when I found out about those. The first time I saw one in real life was when I was about ten or eleven. I was trying to pull something I dropped out from under my parents' bed and wound up touching something where I saw nothingness. (It was dark under the bed and it blended in.) I pulled it out and at first, I just thought it was a black tube. Then I noticed the veins. And I quickly shoved it back under the bed and left.

I can't exactly remember how or when I learned about sex toys, but I think my older sister mentioned it to me when I was almost an adult.

My dad was never in the picture and my mom may as well have not been. I remember finding a dildo in my grandma's room at about 11 she told me it was to rub the aches out of her legs...I believed her. It wasn't until my husband bought our first vibe that I knew what it really was, and it was a couple years after that before I knew there was more out there than a simple vibe.

I think I had some basic understanding of what sex toys could be when I was younger, but I definitely didn't have exact knowledge.

Definitely not. I had to go to a sex shop for extra credit in my psychology of sexual behavior course. Definitely an eye-opener!

When I was about 12 or 13 my two best friends and I would stay up late after our parents went to bed and watch "Talk Sex with Sue Johanson". She showed toys sometimes and/or used them for demonstrations. The parents slowly caught on to what we were watching, especially when they'd hear us giggling and shushing each other. Oh to be that young and naive again .
