I was just wondering if you've also noticed that in the various segments of the queer community beauty standards differ from heterosexual norms? Also what do you think the general standards of ideal beauty amongst various segments of the queer community are?

I have a feeling that there really aren't a lot of people holding rigid standards for ideal beauty in the queer community. In my experience, the idea of what constitutes ideal beauty, varies from person to person. Many people I know do not believe in ideal beauty, myself included. For me beauty has more to do with personality than physical appearance.

This may have more to do with my particular social group. However I doubt it.

Well gay men seem to have a fairly broad spectrum of ideals, certainly, and lesbian to lesbian is varies... I personally tend to prefer "tough girl" looking femmes, red lipstick and leather pants tend to be things I like

I prefer a person who looks "fun" and by that I mean they do not appear to be very conservative in their likes and dislikes. Somebody who looks like they could climb a tree or run around fighting with sticks or something random. And Artistic is definitely my type.

ever heard of the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

I believe everyone has their own idea of what "true- beauty" is. Me personally I am a gay guy. I tend to be a bit more on the fem side, more or less crossdresser status. However I would not say I am your average crossdresser. I dress a little more gothic/ victorian trash type style (victorian trash; among corset tops I will wear ripped pants, ripped leggings etc).
I mean LilLostLenore has it perfect, Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.
There is also beauty beyond physical as well

I think the gay community tends to be more comfortable with who they are than who they want to look like. We are a little more open to being different.
