Same Sex Kissing on TV/Movies

Contributor: Woman China Woman China
I finally got around to watching last weeks episode of Glee, and I had to applaud the show again. The boy finally got his first kiss!!! But what got people's panties in a twist was that it was a boy on boy kiss. And from doing quite a bit of reading from various sites about it, it has generally been called "sickening".

I wanted in some way to express my joy of some TV finally loosing its double standards where it seems acceptable of girls kissing or having sex but men? Oh my god the world is going to end!!!(said with extreme sarcasm). So yes. I wanted to express my thanks to the show so I wrote a blog about it.

But I wanted to open it up and ask you all your thoughts about same genders kissing on TV. My general thought about it is, if people do not want to see men on men or girl on girl kissing on TV, then there should be no straight kisses on TV either.

What are your thoughts about Glee finally having the boys kiss? What were your thoughts about the girls kissing? Do you think it should be shown? And how would you explain this to your kids if they asked you why two boys were kissing?

While I don't watch Glee (I know, I'm a horrible queer), I applaud them for showing the kiss. I think that people blow same sex kisses way out of proportion, considering how inappropriate the straight love scenes on those same networks are. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with sex on TV. But I'd find it much easier to explain a same sex kiss to young children than a straight couple doing the horizontal hokey-pokey. As far as how I'd explain it, I don't really think that needs special explanation. Boys kiss boys, girls kiss girls, and boys and girls kiss each other for the same reasons.

I was watching that episode with a female friend of mine. I'm a guy, but you could probably hear our squeals in the next county. And for the record, there hasn't ever actually been a girl-on-girl kiss in glee. There was a scene where Santana was kissing Britney's neck, but there was no lip-to-lip contact.

I'm actually kinda disappointed that they haven't kissed again since that first kiss. Though Kurt isn't really the type for blatant PDA, so I can kind of understand it, even if it is disappointing.

As you can probably guess, I'm all for same-sex kissing on tv. What I'm really curious to see is if they address same-sex sex. They kinda did, in the "sexy" episode, and Kurt was super uncomfortable about it. But maybe his opinions will change now that he has a boyfriend.
