I'm kind of in the same position. Although, I've got more experience with toys than she does, neither of us have any experience with a strap-on.

The biggest hurdle that I'm coming to is finding a kit or separate dong that doesn't look like a real penis, or has the remote shape of one. It's a huge turn-off for my girlfriend and I'm not too wild about it looking like the real thing either.
