Strap on? Comfortable? Awkward?

Contributor: Skimmie Skimmie
My girlfriend and I are interested in strap on play. We both have never tried it and am wondering what is the best type of strap on for beginners. I know you can get different dildos as I don't like penetrative sex with large dildos and she likes them a bit larger than I do.

I was thinking about the ones that strap on under your butt on your thighs. Has anyone ever had experience with a strap on and was it awkward?

It can be a little awkward at first, but once you get in the swing of it it's not awkward at all, personally I would recommend getting a decent harness because a good harness makes all the difference, any of the Aslan harnesses are pretty damn awesome, if you want something a little cheaper the sport sheets ones aren't bad.

A good harness is key, an inferior harness turned me off on strap-on play for awhile. The Aslan Jaguar and the Spare Parts work real well...they are stable and look so sexy.
As for the size of a dil, choose one that you are comfortable with and has a flat base like the Vixskin line.
Practice thrusting and positions by yourself before trying with your partner.

Our first harness was a piece of crap. It was one of those that come with a vacuum lock attachment and came with an enormous stinky rubber dildo. It just did not work for us at all. In fact, it was a disaster. Landfill.

It was several years before we tried again. I picked up one of the Sportsheets harnesses kits on the cheap. The kit also included a smaller silicone dildo, so I figured that it was worth a second shot. This time it worked out pretty well. Well enough that I later purchased a quality leather harness and many more silicone toys!

It's almost guaranteed to be awkward at first. You're not used to having an appendage hanging out there, and harnesses take some adjustment to get to sit right and feel really attached. Once you get the right harness and the right adjustment and a bit of practice the strap-on gets more comfortable for most people. SpareParts is a good choice for a harness that will probably fit well, as is Aslan or Outlaw Leather, or even Sportsheets. For many people a two-strap "jockstrap" harness is a bit more secure that a G-string, but some find exactly the opposite. In any case, wear your harness both with and without a dildo for a while to get used to it and tweak the adjustments before trying any parter sexual activity with it. Oh yes - jack off for a while too to get a feel for your new "cock".

for me, there has never been anything awkward with them.

I tried rigging a rope harness for my strap on. It was probably the most uncomfortable way to penetrate my partner I have every encountered. Not that you would most likely go that way to begin with, but I thought I would share the experience. I have a vinyl clear strap on harness much like the: link and I found it highly comfortable! I am sure anything in leather is highly enjoyable as well.

The key is to get something comfortably soft and very adjustable. People's bodies aren't all the same, and you don't want to have any floppy parts to the harness (if possible). Stiff and sharp edges are also a mood killer, as is a harness that stretches out of shape.

It takes practice I it was natural for me to use it but my wife had a harder time but now we both can use our strap on. I found the best type to use is the ones with harnesses.

My best advice would be to get a good harness, Aslan Jaguar is my fav.

Secondly get a dildo that is forgiving, by this I mean one that is flexible and has a sleeker design, hold off on buying anything to big, or with pronounced head/ veins. These can cause a lot of pain if not thrusted carefully. You're bound to push the wrong way once or twice which can really hurt your partner.

third lube!

you mentioned not liking being penetrated but its worth it to try out a Fun Factory Share, with the harness! They work amazingly together!

good luck

For a long while I was very anti-strap on because I thought if I could get the job done with the equipment I was born with then why add anything else? Boy was I wrong. Strap ons can be an amazing addition to your sexual experience. However be prepared to be embarrassed the first few times. Make sure you get a quality harness. Aslan is a great company and while they are a little more expensive they are WELL worth it. Also, try the harness on a couple of times before you are trying to make sexy time. That way you know what you're doing when it comes time and you don't leave your lady hanging while you figure out how to strap up. Good luck and most importantly, have fun!
