I personally think mens washrooms would be safer for you, being FTM and getting correct pronouns half the time.

I am FTM as well, but also pre-testosterone like you. However, my wardrobe, hair, etc may look very feminine some days depending on my mood, so I usually get female pronouns (which is fine for me right now, but once I start T and get further into my transition, it will probably bother me more).

Anyway, because of my early stage of transition, I still use the womens washroom, however I have gotten dirty looks and some comments on days when I look more masculine.

From what I hear about mens rooms, they don`t really look at each other or talk to each other or make eye contact. So my guess is that a mens washroom would be a safer environment at this point.

But, my last words to you are, there is no right or wrong time. If other people get offended, it`s their problem. The important thing is that you are comfortable and feel safe.

Good luck!

I second this. Safety first.

I switched bathrooms once I started feeling more confident in myself and felt I passed enough to safely use the mens restroom. I still feel scared and I'm nearly 8 months on T. I just try to put my head down and do my business.

the number one thing is your own safety/comfort. i've been using the men's room since long before i was on t, when i probably only passed about half the time.

but where i live, i've never had much trouble with it. even when people have been confused or i haven't passed, i've never experienced any worse than the odd uncomfortable comment, which i can deal with. it's been a while since that was an issue for me, though.

If you pass enough of the time to feel safe in the bathroom. You don't even need to stp to use the mens room. I'd say if you pass 50% or more and you feel comfortable you should go for it.

I second this. In more 'liberal' areas I feel more comfortable, safe, and I don't care what other people think (because honestly you can tell they don't care). But when I'm in less forgiving towns, I opt for looking for single stall bathrooms or unisex ones. There's a great app called transquat that can map out unisex bathrooms in your vicinity. Whatever you do, stay safe and work with what you've got.

If I were you I would start using men's restrooms, but maybe only in places where you feel safe. That's what I did. I only used them in places I felt were safe or were pretty deserted. If I felt unsafe I would use a family restroom, and if there were none available I used the women's room even though I hated it.

It took a really long time before I switched over to the mens washroom, and I still don't feel comfortable there just because I lack an STP. The fact that you have one and are using it, you should have no problem in the mens washroom. Best of luck to you either way!

I voted for all of them except the surgery/legal one. I think you should do it when you feel safe and comfortable, and only in places you feel safe and comfortable. In a bar that attracts plenty of trans people, maybe you will be comfortable there but not in walmart. You can make those decisions and use your own judgment.
