$26-$32 Fancy Candy Apples??? WHO buys these things? Do YOU?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I love candy apples, and caramel apples. However, this year I have seen a number of them costing from $26 to $32 EACH and that is BEFORE shipping. Yes, they are VERY big and pretty...and I think I would CHOKE on something that over the top expensive.

Anyone out there actually buy these things??? Are they in ANY way worth it???

That sounds ridiculous...how hard is it to make caramel and dip apples in it?

O-o I'd never buy anything that's simple to make, even if they're 'fancy'. I'm going to assume the core demographic for this item are upper middle class to rich people that have no clue how to cook or want to give someone an obnoxiously overpriced item. >__> I wouldn't even pay that much for premium dark chocolate.

$26 for a caramel apple? Um, no.

$26 dollars is only a good price for a bottle of wine, not an apple.

I live in Baltimore and there is a place at the Harbor here which I go to sometimes for mine, so I don't get them online, but they are $23 with tax

Way too expensive, but I have seen these too. Gourmet candied and caramel apples, that look like regular ones with added nuts, crunch, etc.
I would never pay such a price for one.

Why? What is so great about them, that they are worth that cost?

I'm really picky about what type of apples I like so I just make my own and can usually make a dozen or more for about $30. Plus it's a really fun for kids so it's usually a babysitting project I do.

I've bought them at high end department stores and gourmet shops in the city. And I could make them myself but if you just want one as a nice luxury or as a gift, it's easier to buy just one than go through all the trouble to just end up with one. And they're usually not just caramel apples, there's generally a topping layer over 1/2" thick with additional candy, chocolate, etc. on them and they feed several people. It's not an everyday thing but it's a nice treat now and then.
