#Holiday - Happy National Hairstyle Appreciation Day!

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
Ah, hair. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to make my own decisions about my hair. Now as an adult, I tend to wear it down, it's short (to me) and has about fifteen different shades of red in it. It will soon be dyed brown and as close to my natural color as I can get it before I go out of town next month.

What is your preferred hairstyle? And yes, even shaved (or bald) and dyed counts!

Do a google search for a hairstyle similar to yours and post the picture below to celebrate National Hairstyle Appreciation Day! Or, post a hairstyle you'd like to have.

I'll go first! Though my hair isn't anywhere near as red as Debra's is, it was at one point in time. I'm kind of over the persona that supposedly comes with being a redhead and I'd like to get it back to a decent shade of brown.

Been cutting my hair like this for the last 10 years, before that all my hair was down to my waist

For the most part it became a pain, I got a job as a welder. So before work I would have to braid it or tie it all up, mostly to keep it away from machinery and such. Then after work I would take out the ties, this would pull some hairs out, from the ties, and then I would see all the hair from the weld sparks. Then, one day I was working under a forklift on a creeper, I slid under the lift and my hair got caught in the wheels. So bad that my boss had to find a pair of scissors and cut a chunk out. That was the last straw. When I got home I had the wife cut it all off, we both cried at the hair on the floor. It was about 15 years since my hair was cut so short.

Mine is more or less like this...

Curly hair

I try not to have it *quite* so poofy though, and right now, I have bangs. I like it curly and long. I wore it short for a while, but it wasn't quite me.

Growing up, I usually kept my hair about shoulder length, though it would be cut a bit shorter when the school year ended. My hair used to grow like weeds, though, and would be right back to shoulder length come the beginning of the school year (when it was probably cut to about jaw length). As for color, it's been every single shade you can buy (and some you can't). Seriously... I've dyed my hair so many times and so many colors that I should have an honorary degree in it (though I've never done blue other than blue black... and it's been green unintentionally from chlorine).

For the past 10 years or so, I've kept it cut very short (as in pixie). I've shaved it many times and tried to grow it out many times, though I go right back to cutting it short again. Right now was another time that I tried to grow it out because I've occasionally lusted after super long hair (and I was tired of having a pixie)... but other times, I lust after super short hair because it's more "rebellious".

Well, today, after leaving my hair alone and trying to grow it out again, I rebelled and cut it all off. Guess it was perfect timing given the holiday. Though I have to admit that I prefer it short because I can dye it like crazy and it never gets damaged (and if it does a little bit, I can easily cut it off without worrying about losing length).

This is what it looks like right now after just cutting it. And Miss Seberg is always my inspiration for when I cut it.

I don't know a celeb with my hair style, but here's a pic of mine=====

It's longer in the front, short and stacked with layers in back. I had it cut this way in high school and have kept it ever since! It's much easier than my long hair. My very first hair cut was at 14 years old! My hair was so long it hit the back of my knees! It's a big relief to have it short now.

You can sorta see my hair cut here:

LOL Tim my heart goes out to you, I love long hair on a man but both my guys have to have it cut to business standards. Sigel is a business manbut he has his cut longer than is strictly business but Arch is a security guard and we both cried when he cut his mid back length hair for the job.

My hair is growing out finally and both my guys love it. I straighten it most days because if I don't it looks like a clown wig. I'm working with my stylist to get to a point where the damage from hypothyroidism and poorly done color jobs is gone. My hair color changes with the whims of my stylist and myself. He won't do crazy colors like white or pink or blue, (his words...personally I love pink and purple!) but he and I have experimented with various reds and browns.

Strangely enough, I found Gillian Anderson with the same style and color I'm sporting now. (My nickname in high school was Scully.)
