Assuming children trick or treat until the age of 12. Would you allow your child to go alone? Maybe not alone but with a friend and no parents? None of these? Does it make a difference if it's a girl or boy trick or treating alone?
At what age would you let a child go trick or treating alone?

I think that it makes a difference based on the area you live in. Yes it's true that even the best of areas can be dangerous, but some less than others. Here, it might be safe if they are with a large group of kids and know not to leave the group. Gender doesn't matter to me, but they need to be responsible.
I am 23 and still go, but I wasn't allowed to go on my own til I was 14.

I'm a helicopter mom, so maybe never. I'm super paranoid and people do stupid things on Halloween and I'd just prefer that he be with me. If not me, than with a friend and their trustworthy parent.

Our youngest just turned 12. She will probably Trick or Treat longer than 12 years, as her sisters did and the kids in this area often T or T well into High School.
She is not allowed to go alone. I have been on her a little to let me know who she wants to go with, so we aren't looking for someone to go with that day.
She usually goes with friends and maybe one parent. I think she is old enough to go with a bunch of friends and no parents, if they are home by dark. Twelve year olds are strange creatures, and she would want to die of embarrassment if I were standing there, with a bunch of 12 year old (some of whom are taller than I am) while they Trick or Treat. So, she can go with friends as long as they don't go far and are home by dark.
She's the youngest in a good sized family, so I gave up the "helicoptering" many many years ago. For us, a bit of safe, benign neglect is good for kids of a certain age.

I'm 19 and still planning to trick or treat so...
In a large group I thin that 10 would be a good age to start, but I feel it really depends on the kid! If they know the area and they've got a lot of common sense or if they're still very immature. I might even wait until 13 if they're very irresponsible!

Wow...do you guys that still trick or treat go house to house still? Or are you talking trick or treating at work/adult events/etc? If you tried going to a house around here at age 16 or more, you'd get cussed out and possibly punched. Lol.
