Anyone here really believe the world is coming to an end in 2012?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
If you believe it...WHY? If it is the Mayan calendar thing, are you aware that there are multiple Mayan calendars that reflect the "NEW cycle"...the one that BEGINS when this one ends????? YUP...look them up. It's the little fact those folks making movies, books and strange late night TV show's don't bother telling you.

If there is a DIFFERENT reason you fear the world may end (like YES, we are about to enter the next 11 year HOT SPOT phase in solar storm activity) then please explain why you feel this way, and are you doing anything different because of your belief????

(Personally, we are currently making reservations and plans for our 2014 vacation!!!!)

I don't believe the world is ending in 2012, so I'm not doing anything differently.

Sooner than that, man. My calendar doesn't have any days on it past tomorrow!

Hehehe. This is awesome.
I don't believe in it, but it will be hard not to have a part of me wonder on that day. Sort of like Y2K. Part of you always wonders.

The new age mags I browse make an interesting case of it being the end of an cosmic era in the way that human beings are in the process of attaining higher consciousness.

*glances at trolls on Facebook and current crop of American presidential candidates*

Seems the process is taking an awful long time, and I have doubts that some parts of humanity have acquired sentience. But none of them claimed it would be like the flick of a light switch, either.

Apocalyptic-type of ending? Oh, of course not. That's a fear of the racial subconscious. There's more of a chance of being killed off by our doing than any sort of natural or divine means.

I don't think the world is ending this coming year. There have been a slew of "end of the world" dates the last 15-20 years. Remember Y2K?

I don't believe the world will end in 2012. If it's going to happen, I certainly can't stop it so I'm just going to live it day by day like I've done every other year.

I don't think it's possible to predict anything like that. It's just a scam for people to make money.

I'm not going to say anything and jinx myself (and humankind). Because I have the kind of luck where if the world did end, the giant asteroid would land on my house.

There is nothing to this rumor! But, if a asteroid or something was likely to hit the earth, maybe this would be the only issure to be concerned about!

No, there's nothing to it.

Yes and no.

I do NOT believe in the Mayan calendar nor do I beleive in any prophecies to the world ending but I will admit to being a science geek and following what goes on in space, with our own planet, etc.

Do I think the world will end to the extent that I'm going to turn into a mad-woman and "live it up" all for a 2012 end of the world set date? No way, I will treat 2012 like any other year, but I will admit that there is some CRAAAAAZY stuff going on in the world (and outside of it!) that COULD lead to the "end of days".

I'd prefer it to not end so soon though, I have far too much to do with my life before that!

I have mixed feelings about that actually, for the most part I don't believe it but until 2013 hits there's going to be that tiny hint of doubt.

Do I think it could? Sure, but for some reason we're not even close to aware of. Do I think it actually will or believe any of the Mayan or Solar Storm hype? Not at all.

No, because there are no logical explanations or scientific data proof that. I am sure the one who claimed that is looking for fame and money.

Nah, the world will end billions of years from now, long, long after we've all died of other causes.

Also, I kind of find it hilarious that people who would normally not think twice about the beliefs of other cultures suddenly turn paranoid at the thought of the Mayan's Cosmic Expiration Date (or more accurately, as Bignuf mentioned, the end of one cycle and the start of another).

I asked my husband this question the other day and he simply said "that's bullshit". He said that people that the would end in the year 2000 and it didn't so he doesn't believe in it. While I don't believe it will happen I still can't help but wonder.

Well, a carbon-based asteroid could hit the Earth tomorrow and we wouldn't know until it's too late (because it'd be black), but I don't believe the apocalypse theories put forward.
