Mmm, I want a spider cake,it'll conquer my arachnophobia with deliciousness.

I wanted to vote for the spider cake but it looks like it was made in a bakery from the background. And it seems a little unfair to the other cakes.

Ahhh. Thank you for mentioning that. I thought the same thing & was trying to figure out if I should bring it up and/or how to do so.

If we happen to have a professional cake-maker in the crowd & they made a cake at home, I'd have no issue. But cakes that were made at work seem a little questionable.

I was trying to be fair which is why I didnt enter the makeup category. Im a professional special effects make up artist--it wouldnt be fair to others. Not that I am saying Id have won. I just dont think it would have been fair.

I felt like some of the entries could have went in the toy costume category, although I was delighted to see these entries I don't know if they count as 'other.' Anyhow they were all great either way as for the spider cake I'm not sure about my feelings there it does look like it came from a bakery especially since there were 3 of them but who knows it could just be a hobby

I asked in the contest announcement thread about the division between toy costume and "other" as I'd considered doing a multi-toy scene kinda like the Batman & Robin thing.

Sam said: "Hmm, for toy costume I think it should be just one toy, and that one toy can be any color. If you wanted to make a whole rock band out of toys I'd call that "other" and put it in that category."

I ended up not doing it because my idea didn't have anything to really do with Halloween. But some of the above kinda don't either so... I guess I can see them going either place. *shrug*

Maybe next year there should be a category for multi-toy costumes then. I did really like the batman and robin piece I was just wondering if they were supposed to be here. You should have entered yours anyway! I know someone else in the pumpkin carving contest also mentioned, and showed a picture of, a pumpkin they made but did not enter. Next time you should just go with your idea and see what happens

I wanted to let you all know that I heard from the creator of the spider cakes. They were in a baking class and these were basically homework. They were given a theme (Halloween was the creator's theme) and asked to make multiples to show they could be consistent. So no worries about them being a professional piece

That's why I didn't vote for it. I don't really care if they were made in a bakery or not, but the background is a mess. That, and the spider heads don't match the bodies.

I don't see why anyone would vote for entry #7 Oh No! There is no creativity or hard work there. They put in maybe 10 minutes worth of work. Which I think is unfair for the people like myself who put in 50+ hours worth of work on their entry only to be outdone by someone who put in only 10 minutes or less of work.

Like the person who did the spider cakes deserves all of the votes they have gotten. I don't mind loosing out to someone who has a really great entry and that deserves to win. But when someone puts in very little effort and has more votes than me it just seems a bit unfair.

Just because somebody didn't have 50+ hours to be able to devote to making something to enter doesn't make it any less creative. You don't know how much time they may have had to spare or even how much time it may have actually taken that person to get everything to work correctly to get the picture taken in the first place.

In a community that prides itself on being supportive of its members no matter what the endeavor, I'm honestly a little shocked to see a statement like that. Time spent on a project does not equal how great it's going to be, and it takes guts for everybody to enter their projects here and share them with the community. It wouldn't be fair for anybody to criticize you for how long you spent on your entry, and it's just as unfair for you to criticize somebody else's entry.
