When you get done trick or treating with your children, do you check their candy before you allow them to eat it?

I said most times because sometimes my daughter is too quick and she will eat some before I get to check. Lol.

My children know they don't get anything til I've looked it over. I found a razor blade before and it's just not worth the risk. Couple years back we had some freak who poisioned the kids too - not my kids but others from another neighborhood. So I'm very picky on what they can and can't eat - I normally get store bought candy myself too just in case I deplete there take too much with questionable stuff. I'm really over protective in a lot of things - this is just one of them.

Wow, that's scary. I was wondering if such things ever happened and I suppose they do. Who would do such things?

It doesn't hurt to be on the safe side.

Don't have kids but if I did, I would check. My mom checked for me and even though it was a pain in the butt, I never was harmed.

I used to throw away everything that looked suspicious, and check the few pieces that seem to be safe, made sure there are no pinholes or tears on the wrapper.

I don't have kids but, if I did, I would only let them go to people we know and I'd definitely have them checked. You never know how crazy people are.

Always, always always! But we also ONLY take the kids to people we've known for years, close friends and family. Our town is sooo tiny that we all know everybody to some extent anyways so most people around here know which neighborhoods are totally trustworthy. There's not really any around here that I would not trust, but I worry about safety in more ways than just candy so we just don't take them to the houses of people we don't know well.

I think it's VERY important to check the candy, but it's even more important to not let kids go to houses that they do not know. Sounds like a perfect way for a pedophile to set up. I get paranoid. Lol

Because my kids are grown now, it isn't a problem, but when they were still at home, we always chekced their candy after Trick or Treating. As has been stated here already, there are nut jobs out there that will try to hurt the kids for soem strange reason. For my kids, if it didn't come from the store, it immediately went out. We also only went to places we knew.

This right here. I throw away anything cracked, chipped, or that is not in a wrapper. While baking cookies may seem like a good idea, I would not eat them and am not giving them to my kids. If the wrapper looks strange it goes in the garbage. You never know what is up with people.

Even though there has never been a case of a child being hurt by tampered with Halloween candy, I still check. We used to do the "Cosby Method." One bag from people we know, they can eat some of that as soon as they get it (but not all of it) and one "other bag" from people we don't know, that Mama has to see before they get to eat it.

I throw away all that isn't wrapped, as well as any apples (really people still give them, mostly old ladies) cookies that aren't factory made etc.

When they were really little, I could take what I wanted (mean mean Mama) now they keep track, so I have to ask for some.
