Community gives back: the first Thanksgiving family has been adopted! Please help!

I got everyone's donations...and I am making a list of all the people who gave (which will follow shortly)... but I wanted to share this news because I am so happy I could burst!

The Eden Points drive just ended today and was incredibly successful!!! We had donations from about 30 people – stay with me for the math, here ok?

It came to a total of 50,485 points donated. That’s $504.85 in points, which means Eden is giving 50% of that as cash... that works out to $252.34.
This brings the grand total raised for these two families (including the Eden basic funding of $300) to $552.34! GO community!!!

And we're sending the check to MySecretCollection! She is gonna shop her butt off for these families! They will be set for quite a while with lots of good food!

I am crying people, seriously crying (and not just because today has been an emotional day). You have shown what wonderful people you are, and gave in order to help two families not only have a wonderful holiday, but lighten the load in their grocery bill!

I am so glad to say that I am a part of this community.

In addition to the $504.85, my husband and I are adding an additional $95.15 cash to the fund, bringing it to $600. I will be dividing the money by person, and then figuring out exactly how much each family will get based on number in the family. How does that sound to everyone?

I am so gonna cry from the love this community gives. And yes, dividing by number of people in the family sounds very fair to me. Gotta feed those kiddies. Total of $600 divided by 16 parts and the 10 people family gets 10 parts of the whole. I'm sure just about everyone could do the math but I haven't done math in a while and I'm a nerd that loves math hehe.

But seriously, this is amazing. Simply wonderful. It's so hug time.

I'm so... so amazed, excited, and emotional right now.

As I said earlier in this thread, I'm very new to Eden, but already I'm so very thankful to be a part of this wonderful community. You're all wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL. I wish there were more people like you in this world. I'm so happy for these two families.

I am so excited, I am shopping this week for the families.

I wanted to share my excitement with you all by giving some more info about the families.

The first family, which I had talked a little about is a family of 10, there is the mom, dad, and eight children, ranging from age 3-15, seven of which were adopted!

I talked to the husband, Gilbert, this morning, and he is so nice. I felt blessed by our conversation. He spoke about his children in a way that showed off what a proud father he is. I love that!

I will be dropping off their food on the 24th, as they don't have a lot of room to keep the turkey ahead of time.

I tell you what, I cannot wait to meet this family face to face!

The second family that I thought was a family of six is actually a family of seven (I really need to work on my Spanish!). This family is a single mother of six children ranging from age two to 19; all still living in the home. The mother does not speak any English, so I have hired my best friend Maria to participate in the phone conversations and the drop off of their food, as my translator. Maria is not a part of the Eden Community, but is offering to help, and holds a top secret clearance, so she is perfect for the "job".

I cannot wait to get the shopping started! Target has turkeys on sale this week for only $.46/lb! less
