Community gives back: the first Thanksgiving family has been adopted! Please help!

I am so excited, I am shopping this week for the families.

I wanted to share my excitement with you all by giving some more info about the families.

The first family, which I had talked a little about is a family of 10, there is the mom, dad, and eight children, ranging from age 3-15, seven of which were adopted!

I talked to the husband, Gilbert, this morning, and he is so nice. I felt blessed by our conversation. He spoke about his children in a way that showed off what a proud father he is. I love that!

I will be dropping off their food on the 24th, as they don't have a lot of room to keep the turkey ahead of time.

I tell you what, I cannot wait to meet this family face to face!

The second family that I thought was a family of six is actually a family of seven (I really need to work on my Spanish!). This family is a single mother of six children ranging from age two to 19; all still living in the home. The mother does not speak any English, so I have hired my best friend Maria to participate in the phone conversations and the drop off of their food, as my translator. Maria is not a part of the Eden Community, but is offering to help, and holds a top secret clearance, so she is perfect for the "job".

I cannot wait to get the shopping started! Target has turkeys on sale this week for only $.46/lb! less

In addition to buying groceries I have written emails to local places to see if they would be interested in donating gift cards and what not to the family. How cool would it be if we were able to make this a great end of the year for them, and not just a great Thanksgiving?!?! less

Hey again everyone. Let me tell you what, I am tired today, but feel great about it.

Last night my friend Maria and I went to the other side of San Antonio to deliver to our family of seven. We filled their entire kitchen table with groceries as the family looked at us in awe. I had requested to take some photos, but the family preferred that we didn't, and so I respected their wishes of course.

Early this morning my three sons and I set up to drive to Sommerset, Texas to make a delivery to the other family. I did not realize what a trek it would be, but my kiddos were true sports.

When we finally got there we were welcomed into the families house with many smiles. I instantly fell in love with this family, and their daughters fell for my boys. It was quite amusing watching the girls run and hide from my boys, just to keep peaking out at them to giggle. My children helped me carry in all the groceries for the family, and they were so thankful.

After all the groceries were carried in we were invited to stay for a while, and of course we did. We talked more about the family, and how they came to adopt so many children (they have adopted eight children in total, and seven still live at home).

The mom and dad used to work together at an assisted living center. It was during that time that they begun to be foster parents. The first two children came together to the home under an emergency placement. They stayed until they were legally available for adoption. At that point the family loved the children as their own, and wanted to make things permanent, and so they adopted both.

Over the years the state contacted the family on more occasions informing them of other children that needed foster parents. Although their plan was to never have more than two children, they continued to take children in.

The love that this family has for each other is so evident. I cannot imagine these children living anywhere else!

On my way out the youngest son asked me where I was going. As I crouched down and told him he asked me if he could come with me for a while. Oh how I wish I could have let him. He was such a sweetie, and a big helper. He had "helped" me with some of the groceries, despite the fact that he has cerebal palsey.

As I finally sit down for the day I just want to thank you all again for all you have done to help these families. Additionally, thank you for allowing me to represent our community and reach out to local families. When I remember what I am thankful for this year each and everyone of you will be in my thoughts.
