Do you side with the employees of stores that are opening today, Thanksgiving 2012, in striking so they don't have to work on a Holiday?

Do you support the stores for trying to make a buck in a bad economy, or the workers who say that this is a Holiday, please let's do the shopping on Black Friday?

Where do you stand?

Will you avoid stores, after this, who were open on Thanksgiving or does it matter, in the long run?

People should be given the option to spend time with their families without penalty. If some people want to work, they can, but it should not be expected. Still, I don't think people should have to work on turkey day.

As someone who worked retail for a long time, I have to side with them. It's miserable to have to tell your family you can't spend much time with them because of work. Family should come first, not profits.

I support them in an odd way - I just refuse to take part in the madness. That will not help them one bit - because there are too many people who think saving a few bucks is more important than time with family and friends.

Total support. I've still yet to find the words to convey my disgust and how appalling I find the behavior of corporations to do this. Nothing is sacred.

What I'm wondering is what type of math is being used in which businesses think that people will spend more money just because they start their sales earlier - people will still have the same amount of money, no matter when the sales happen. No one has ever been able to adequately explain this.

I'd say that it's excessive, since I like Thanksgiving to be about Thanksgiving. Hopefully it'll start to go back to focusing on one day of madness, and people can have a day with their family before the Christmas shopping rush.

Honestly, I never really saw a problem with the people having to work on Thanksgiving. I know of plenty places that are open on Thanksgiving, not for the Black Friday sales, just because they are open. It's part of that business. Yes, it sucks you can't be with your family, but you're not working the whole entire day. It is what it is.
