Is it cheesy to give your significant other a gift card/certificate to a restaurant for a birthday gift? Does this seem selfish as you too will be partaking in eating at this restaurant on the gift certificate? I know gift cards and certificates are GREAT gifts to give randomly for birthdays and Christmas but does it make a difference that you're giving it to your man or woman? Would they appreciate this gift or prefer something for just them or more personal?

I don't see anything wrong with giving gift cards. I usually give them something more personal but I try and do that with most people I give gifts to. Though, I would have no problem giving a gift card.

I think there's nothing wrong with gift cards. Especially if it's for somewhere they really like.

I really don't see anything wrong with it. Giving them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant or something also lets them know that they're not necessarily obligated to go there with you (depending on the type of restaurant of course), at least that's what I would take it as if I were given one; that you want me to have a nice dinner and I get to choose who to take. Otherwise a hand written gift card "good for one dinner on me at this restaurant" or something like that, since if you're going to be paying for it either way.. Long story short, if you think your significant other would like it, then there's nothing wrong with doing that.

I agree with this. Especially if you know it's their favorite place to eat and maybe they could go there during the week for lunches, or get take out after a long day. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

instead of a gift card, i take my bf out to eat for his b-day & pay for it. i tell him to pick any place he wants to eat w/in reason (which still leaves a lot of places open b/c i save up some right before his b-day).
