I guess it depends on what holiday we're talking about. If you're talking about V-day it's either the weekend before or after. Same with anniversaries and birthdays if they fall during the week. Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve and Christmas regardless of the day. Thanksgiving is celebrated on that Thursday.

christmas is sort of a week long event in my family, other holidays are more "we'll celebrate whenever we've got the time"

We do both. We recognize it on the day, but we'll do something more on days where we have more time.

It depends entirely on the various scheduling conflicts in our family, if it's something major like Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving where the whole family likes to get together and celebrate it usually winds up on a weekend.

It depends on the holiday and where or who they are being celebrated with.

We might recognize a special day, but no time to "play" till the weekends come.
