What do you do with your pets during Thanksgiving Dinner.

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
We know people who board their pets at the holidays, so people can come and go, and "eat in peace", without dogs and cats around. At best, they "lock them in the yard or another room.

Our dogs are part of our family. We cook them special meals and feed them before our big family/friends dinner, so they have "full tummies" and don't even feel like "begging at the table". Then we have some new rawhide chews and toys to keep them busy. Bottom line, however, is that "this is their home, everyone else is a visitor" and so we respect the fact they are social animals and want to be around their people, as well as the fact that with the right "forethought", we can keep them happy, but still make it a very pleasant visit for our guests (who are all Dog People anyway..or they usually don't come around much)!

Dogs sit by the table like family and cats about if they behave, or they get shut in basement./

Our dogs have always behaved at Thanksgiving so we just let them wander around

We let my cats roam around. They're pretty peaceful.

Ours behave. They lie on the floor and make "puppy eyes" at the table, hoping for scraps

<_< Actually, he gets his own little plate of food since nothing we usually have is harmful for dogs.
He doesn't eat at the table but we consider him a member of the family so we tend to think it would be a little rude to not at least give him some turkey. =3

The cats--poor babies go outside or in the bedroom. They LOVE turkey!! My drooling cat is gone....my first Thanksgiving without her. She loved to sit in front of the oven and drool big puddles while the turkey roasted. I am going to miss tripping over her so much!!!

The puppies are good, they just sit and make you feel guilty. Then get theirs when we are done.

My dog is more interested in the people than the food. He usually ends up sleeping underneath the table where he can keep an eye on everyone's feet.

I have to put my poor kitty in my room with the door shut because it's ferocious. It'll bite my family. lol. It's a pretty mean grumpy cat that will attack strangers out of nowhere. My family doesn't come over much so they're strangers. lol.

Nothing in particular. My dog never bothers us during a meal, he knows he's not allowed to have human food.

Mischief and Freckles are indoor cats, and they tend to get a tiny piece of turkey or wet cat food since we can't spoil them rotten food wise. We go to his parents anyways so we normally bring back a few dishes.

Dogs outside and the cats usually stay tucked in a bedroom so they're fine.

We usually buy our dog some expensive dog food, like gourmet wet food, and let her eat it outside while we eat our dinner.
