when you get a gift you do not like, do you pretend to like it so you don't hurt the person's feelings even if they offer a reciept, and stick it in the back of the closet forevermore...
...or do you return it?
or do you regift it?
or throw it away once they are out of sight?

If its something I won't use I will return it, I don't see the sense in having it in the closet taking up room. I also don't see the point in throwing it away since someone spent hard earned money on it, I usually just return it for store credit an get something I will use.

Usually people I know will just include a gift receipt in the box so they never know if the item is returned later or not and I never say anything if I do return it. I do the same thing cause it allows people to avoid any awkwardness.

I have such a hard time getting rid of something that I got as a gift, even if I hate it.
If I'm short on cash and there's something else at the store that I really need, I'll exchange it. But usually they just end up collecting dust in my closet.

Returning it and exchanging it for something else is ususally a good idea because at least the money they spent on it goes to actual use, and therefore it was actually a nice thing they did for you. Sticking it in the back of your closet does nobody any good.

I mean, it was a bought gift anyway. it's not like it was handcrafted/handmade. They were probably just guessing at what to give you afterall.

I keep it for a while. Depending on what the gift is, I will toss it, re-gift it or donate it to goodwill.

Regift, return or Goodwill. I would never throw a perfectly good item in the trash.

Return or let it sit in the basement for awhile before we donate it to goodwill or some organization like that.

It depends on the situation...I like it when people just put the gift receipt with the gift so it doesn't make it awkward. If appropriate and they offer it, I will take but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I have regifted things in the past or just donated it to Goodwill

No I let the person know I did not like it. Usually everyone knows what type of stuff I like so I don't really have to worry about it.

If it's someone I'm not super close to and they stick the receipt in the box it's possible I'll exchange it for something else. But I wouldn't out right tell the person I don't like their gift and or would like the receipt to return it.
