TOFU FURKEY?

Peta, as always, is pushing a new, ANTI Turkey ad. It shows a DOG HEAD on a turkey and says that all animals share the same basic senses and thus to eat a turkey is like eating your dog.

I am an animal lover and in favor of very stringent and humane farming, but I would be a hypocrite if not admitting we love meat.

However, how many people, in fact, DO a vegetarian or Vegan Thanksgiving????

What are the basics you serve and do you ever have NON vegetarians over for dinner? What do they think of that meal? (Assuming they are honest with you about it?)

Ugh. PETA. They besmirched the name of Cooking Mama, and I will never forgive them.

While it was not a Thanksgiving thing, I did bring a dish of sweet and sour ginger "beef" with wax beans to my uncle's once. He's a meat lover and he couldn't tell the difference. The product I used was from Gardein, makers of a number of meatless "meats". They also make excellent "chick'n" strips that taste better than the real thing to me.

I can't say I've done a vegetarian Thanksgiving, as I don't usually cook anything special for that day.

I'm vegetarian but my family is not. We have a Whole Foods close to use and they offer catering for Thanksgiving in vegetarian or non-vegetarian form. We always order a Vegan Dinner for One meal for me. This includes either Tofurkey or Field Roast (the Field Roast is AWESOME!) and some vegan sides. The sides have been vegan mashed potatoes, random veggies, cranberry sauce, and a rice stuffing. It's really good!

PETA, for the record, irritates me a lot. They have their heart in the right place, I know. They go about things the wrong way and tend to piss people off to the cause more than they get people to support it.

My husband and I are vegetarians and thus, our thanksgiving meal is also vegetarian. We don't involve our families in our meals because they are not vegetarian and I don't want to push the diet on them. However, the sight and smell of meat makes both my stomach and my soul ill, so we avoid eating with people who are not vegetarian.

I love meat. If God did not want us to eat them, he would not have made them so tasty.

I've never done a vegetarian thanksgiving, but I would. Tofu and Veggie-meats are delicious.

I have a friend that bought a Tofurkey one year for Thanksgiving. She said it was good, but of course, nothing like the real thing.

I am a vegetarian, but no one else we know is, so if I am hosting Thanksgiving, I make everything but the turkey and either my husband makes it, or my parents bring it. I just eat everything but the meat. I'm all for saving animals, but I mostly don't eat meat just because it grosses me out and I don't like the taste or texture. I don't really follow what PETA does.

O_o But turkeys are so horrible at mating that we have to do it for them. I don't really eat thanksgiving turkey, but I do enjoy it for sandwiches. I'd never do a vegan thanksgiving, I just accidentally eat vegetarian. I don't enjoy gravy or the meats my family prepares, so I just enjoy the meat-free side dishes.

I agree with you about that. They could go so much farther with common sense not extreme views.
