What made you become thankful?

Sometimes we don't realize what we have until something really makes us take notice. Maybe you lost something you once had, or almost lost it, maybe you were graced by something so good you couldn't believe it, or maybe you caught a glimpse of another person's life and felt grateful for what you have.

I'd like to read your experience, event, or turning point that really made you stop and think about how you perceive life. It can be something big or small, as long as it made you think about life differently and made you feel thankful or grateful for what you have.

What made you become thankful?

I'll start. I injured myself a few years ago, was on crutches for a month or so, had surgery, and had to learn to walk again. Since then I am so thankful for mobility. Instead of thinking that I *have to* walk somewhere if I'm running an errand, etc., I think about how good it feels to *be able* to walk somewhere, even if walking is sometimes painful.

For me...

Two divorces. Not that they were exceptionally bad divorces and I'm still friends with both exes but having tried, and failed, twice it was something to be eternally grateful for to find a man that suits me well, a man I who makes me hope in forever.

I'm thankful for that. Probably more than I could ever hope to express.

Almost losing my ability to walk when I was four made me very grateful for my mobility.
When I first realized that it was actually a possibility that I could lose the first man I had ever loved, my partner, the breath in my lungs through my own stupidity. It made me thank the Gods for my life partner and the support he gives us all.

Nothing. I just woke up one morning and realized how lucky I am to have what I have, and it made me so thankful to be alive.

Ditto. I have been through A LOT in 31 years. It all started very young and I some how managed to come out alright.

Two traumatic losses in the past few years. They made me appreciate and be thankful for what I have and to make sure I take the time to let people know how I feel and make sure that I live to the fullest.

Losing people I loved, whether through death or distance, has made me increasingly thankful for the loved ones that I have now, particular the ones that have stood the test of time.
