We keep it simple. We buy for my hubbies mom, my parents, and the children. We don't bother buying gifts for the adults in the family, expect our parents. We take what money would would have spent on the grown ups and spend it on more useful gifts for the kids. So, instead of getting my niece that crappy $15 babydoll; we buy her a $50 art table, learning computer, or something else that is useful. If you buy for everyone the gifts suffer. Parents are usually more than happy to go without gifts if it means they save money because you bought their kids something they needed.
