Series: Nancy Drew
If I had to pick one absolute best book, taking all aspects into account such as enjoyment, plot, characters, literary value, etc...
It would be Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. That book is amazing.

I'm a sucker for romance, so any book Jane Austen wrote. She is awesome.

Guiltily ... The Thin Woman by Dorothy Cannell. The characters and dialogue are so deliciously written, even if it is a mystery romance.

Pretty much anything written by Tolkien. His Middle Earth works are obviously my favorites (especially The Silmarillion), but his other stories are great too.

UGH Childhoods End by Arthur C. Clarke. I just swoon thinking about how good it is.
You Don't Know Me by David Class is a fun, silly book.
It's kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini is AWESOME (The movie doesn't include a lot of his mental issues, which is what the story is about!)
Complications by Atul Gawande is a compilation of medical mishaps and is BEAUTIFUL, but may not have the same appeal if you aren't interested in medicine.
I have such a long list!

The Harry Potter series and the Hunger Games trilogy. I've read a few for classes that I liked like:
Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness by Pete Earley
Manic: A Memoir by Terri Cheney
The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes
Neither Wolf nor Dog: On Forgotten Roads with an Indian Elder and The Wolf at Twilight: An Indian Elder's Journey through a Land of Ghosts and Shadows by Kent Nerburn
Plus countless Stephen King books.

My favorite is probably Stephen King's 'the green mile'. I was bored and picked a random book off my mom's bookshelf when I was in high school and since it was one big book that was divided into 6 small ones it didn't seem so bad. I ended up loving it and had all of them read in a matter of days.

I'd have to say the MARY Higgins Clark books have been the best. The Cradle Will Fall, Pretend You Don't See Her and many others! My favoriteauthor ever! I really loved the book Charlotte Figg Takes Over Paradise too and it's not usually my kind of read, but I loved it! I actually got it free on my Kindle too A very nice deal.

I second this. I try to read through (most of) Tolkien's Legendarium every year, along with Victor Hugo's Notre Dame de Paris.
