Bookmarks - do you collect them?

Contributor: bronzelotus bronzelotus
Having grown up as a voracious reader before e-readers were available (although I own and love my Kindle), I got a lot of bookmarks as gifts. Eventually I started collecting them.

How do you keep your place in a book? Bookmark, receipt, scrap of paper, or (gasp!) dog-earing pages? Am I the only one who hits the bookmark section in Barnes and Noble before checking out the books?

I draw my own bookmarks. Recently I've just used doodles on sticky notes.

I used to fold the corners of the pages, but stopped when I started borrowing friends' books.

I'm okay with folding library books, though. Someeetimes my books. I treat all of my personal books carefully, but anything having to do with school/ learning I throw around everywhere, even if the material means a lot to me.

I sometimes use scrap paper or whatever's in my pockets to hold the pages, if I don't fold down the pages.
