Does sound quality matter to you when listening to music?

Contributor: Stinkytofu10 Stinkytofu10
Some people are audiophiles, some are content with tiny speakers - as long as they can hear what's going on, they don't mind the muddy sound. Where are you in this spectrum?

Assuming 100 being the absolute need for uncompromising sound quality, and 1 being "as long as it's audible, I'm set."

If I don't have much of a choice then I will listen to crappy quality music. However I do my best to have it at the highest quality.

I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system for my computer that I have had for many years. It still works like it was brand new and offers fairly nice sound quality. However recently I bought a new $60 USB headset to go a long with my HD audio card in the computer. Suffice to say, hearing music is like listening to it for the first time all over again. I can hear the tiniest detail in every instrument that my speakers will never allow me to hear.

Also, one particular DJ/Composer/Artist etc has produced much of his music lately in full 5.1+ surround HD audio. So listening to that with my equipment, it's amazing suffice to say.

I'm a snob when it comes to audio quality.

It bothers me otherwise. I'm a bass whore.

I want the best sound quality possible. Nothing interfering with the music as it was intended to be heard.

i wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but once i started using my laptop more frequently, i invested in $20 headphones and $50 speakers. I know a lot of other people spend more money, but $70 for sound is a lot to me. I wish i could afford the higher quality stuff

If it sounds crappy, it drives me crazy!

I prefer the sound quality to be very good. If it's otherwise (excluding the older EPs) then it makes me think that the producers aren't altogether bothered about their product, which puts me off it.

I'm not really sure how picky I am.

If I can notice poor quality, I don't like it. But I'm also half-deaf in one ear and most of the time I do fine with a lower-bitrate format.

I had some very nice headphones once, before my cat ate the cord. :/ I could tell the difference, but it wasn't worth it to me to re-buy them.

If the sound quality is bad, I'd rather not listen to it at all, good thing my husband is picky about his music systems.

I generally don't mind a bit of off quality but my pet peeve about music is too tiny speakers that make my favorite techno music sound like crap.
If it can't play Cascada or GaGa without messing it up it doesn't belong in my possession.

I never used to be that picky with the quality of what I downloaded, but I got one of those thingeys that plays your iPod via your car speakers, and if an mp3 is crappy quality, you can REALLY tell.

My hearing just isn't that good anymore, so...super high-res would be lost on me. That said, I don't want to hear any particular range clipping out, or any distortion, etc.

It is distracting when the sound is off balance!

If I have subtitles then I'm good, otherwise I have to have good sound!

I am currently listening and watching to Brian Transeau's (BT) This Binary Universe studio album recorded in DTS 5.1 surround sound and watching in full 1080p HD, but listening to it on an 8.1 HD audio surround sound setup and it sounds freaking phenomenal!!!!!!

You can hear every single tiny detail within the music without any single noticeable suggestion of a flaw in the music, a crackle, or distortion of any kind. Simply an "eargasm". Every single note, instrument and sound is crisp and clearly heard. If you heard your music in this fashion, trust me, it would be like hearing it for the first time again!
